I think the 87 refers to his date of birth. Thus, he's currently 22/3 years old. 97 could be BL's year of birth, since he's currently 13.

We're reasonably sure certain it is based on post count. It outdates the points system, and it would be a bother to rewrite the site code so that everyone's changes to being point-based.

Remeber in other forums there are Stars with subtitles as Ranks  and in other forums there are just post counts. Dont know what the titles allow in this forum. E.g Lock topic etc.

Well, two ranks not seen before showing up in close sequence to each other on the same member would have been extremely unlikely, but not impossible.

But, we can definitively prove that at least the second one was messed with, based on the fact that it changed without a post being made:
