SCS a Disappointment?

I wouldn't blame Tilted Mills for "botching" SCS. They did a great job with it, I think. The fault lies with who gave them the job - EA. They were basically told to reinvent the wheel, but this time, make it square, because round was "too hard." Well they did a fine job with that, made a finely polished, nice & purty, square wheel. It's no surprise it's not going anywhere, but it's hardly their fault. Had they rebutted to EA with all the same thoughts much of the SimCity faithful had, it's very doubtful they'd have gotten the job to begin with. Better to just suck it up, build the square wheel, and get paid for it, no?

Now that the exercise-in-futility that is SCS is over with... maybe with luck EA will realize that, despite the increasing difficulty, SimCity classic through SimCity 4 worked. Will TM be involved in the next incarnation, if there is one? I wouldn't be upset if so. I have tried out SCS. Ignoring the "it ain't what I like" feelings (not easy, but I tried), the game feels fairly well-written. Graphics are decent, not exactly 5-star, but good for the type of game it is. Everything seems smooth, the interfaces take a little getting used to but are more-or-less intuitive, most of what I've seen "works as designed"... from a QA perspective, I'd give them an A. I still hate the game, but it's by no means due in any way to TM's development efforts. If someone cooks the most scrumptious chicken livers in the history of the world, I'll still hate them quite passionately. Part of me sincerely hopes Tilted Mills is involved with the next SimCity. I believe they could do a great job with it, if they're given the original formula to work with, instead of blueprints for another misshapen wheel.

All the manual that came with Simcity Societies talked about is the types of sims, sims' mood, creatiy, wealth, production, and blah, blah, blah. They didn't talk about everything that was in the game and what you can do when you are building a city, only the sims. The installing and uninstalling the game took forever, even when my computer is above the system requirements.

After my experiences with Caesar IV this summer to see if I would want SCS, I think this is being a little generous to Tilted Mill.  Ceasar IV had beautiful graphics, especially aerially, and the sims looked credible.  But the controls were highly counterintuitive.  They weren't where you would they think they should be and they nonresponsive when you clicked on them.  I hold TM's software responsible for that.

I am soooooooo largely dissapointed with this new simcity that I cannot express my feelings even in Spanish. When I bought the game two days ago, I couldn´t believe that was a simcity game. It was the worst 50 euros I've ever spent in my life!!!!! What happened to the people in EA?? Have they been hidding themselves all this time that we were wishing and suggesting developments for, in my opinion, one of the best(if not the best) PC game ever?? Are they dumbs?? I understand the point that they wanted more people to be able to play this game, but as someone said in this post, is it worth it to loose all the gamers that has been playing all the titles of simcity??Because, the more post I read, the more I realise that hardly anyone here like the game. And trust me, that the more frikye gamers of simcity well know this webpage, and EA has to know this webpage too. Then, why they did this with the game??

How many years we have been expecting an SC5??hoping that it would fill in all our desires about this game?? We always expected the opposite of what simcity societies truly is.

If they wanted to do an easy game for childs to play, just remember: was it easy to play simcity 2000 at the beguinning?I dont know about the you, but I was a child at that time, and I learned to play it. I learned about what a real city needed to be runned. WE ALL LOVED IT AS IT WAS!!!

As you can see, im just going around trying to express something I don't eve know what it is. But i think you all get the idea, even the same feeling.

I just hope that we dont have to wait another 4 years to get the simcity we have always dream of!!!

PS. BTW, my cd of simcity deluxe is now broken, and I can't play the game anymore. After months trying to buy it again, I can't find it anywhere. Could anyone tell me where can I get a new copy of SC4 Deluxe??thnkss in advancequote>

I totally agree with you, only I didn't buy the game, my friend did. I decided to 'give it a go' as everyone kept saying it's a 'different' game to SimCity (Who needs logic when you're a multimillion dollar company?). Yes, it is indeed different, but even so -who in their right mind would want to sit and plop every variation one at a time of the housing available even in the free-form mode????? I spent five hours playing the game, and found it extremely frustrating, too limited, and way way way too basic to even warrant my desire to get back into it.

Anyway, back to my point: If you send the broken disc back to EA via the address in the manual, and a nominal fee, they will in fact replace the disc for you, which saves you from buying/finding the whole deluxe version again. They are pretty good for that sort of thing, so it's always worth a try.

Good luck!!

"The most disappointing piracy happend this year is done by EA self.

Snatching Simcity away from the faithful Simcity community, who made that game also during the last 10-15 years by paying and playing and modding etc. because they like to play with a *real* city *simulator*... that is also piracy.

Simecity is morral also owned by the huge faithful Simcity player community and they feel in large majority that EA has robbed their Simcity away. Not bringing out the real Simcity 5 developed by Maxis, but a city societies game under the name Simcity, that is not different from devastating a renowned city building and management simulator. Shame you EA! you deserve the outcry from the Simcity community and the many low rated reviews for the newest so named Simcity version."

....I'd hate to take this one into a court of law

Maybe it was wrong to call it SimCity... sure, in the first weeks after the release it may help, but fans of the franchise are disappointed soon. I don't know, but if they gave it another name, maybe it would have performed better on the market, as an independent concept.

I agree with not giving it the right name. But it was not a mistake to make the game itself. The next SC game EA and Maxis make will more than likely be SC5. Anyway, they had the right idea when they made SCS. Choosing Tilted Mill insted of Maxis was just about their biggest mistakes.

To get to the point, IT IS A GOOD GAME.

I finally got to play this game and here are my thoughts:

-----------IT STINKS----------------------

If Maxis does not want to work on the Sim City series anymore they should release ALL the source code out. I'm pretty sure that the talent on this site can put something together far better then Societies.........

Yet the only thing EA cares is money and probably won't give a damn on us, crying for a real simcity. And not even if we totaly boycott the game. No matter what we do, EA will always consider on HIGH sales and LOW sales.

1. If there are High sales, this doesn't mean game is popular for EA, but to them, it's just a chance to have xyz number of x-packs following the original good seller game. (and a possible SEQUEL)

2. If sales are low, this leaves no other choice to EA, but to leave the franchise to die.

And by studying the sales, I can predict, that the second option is more likely to happen than the first one.

I think that's that.

I thing  EA should use the engine of SimCity 4 with improvemets, and just add some additional stuffs , such as weather , gas pipes , telephony network , transit networks tools many and many other stuffs.

For me SCS is a piece of *****\
