question on demand

I have two neighboring cities.  I have residential and commercial on one edge in city A and industry on other edge in City B.  I have roughly 7.5k population with 4k industry jobs and 1.4k commercial jobs...However, my Demand in City A and B has negative 2000 Dirty Industry.  I have not built any schools yet but how come my industry is so negative?

The Res demand is high...but I dont even have enough jobs to support my city (even though I dont see any No Jobs signs yet).  Is there something I'm missing why my Industry is in the negative?  Manuf. and HT industry is zero demand.   Any tips on how to raise it without adding more population because then I would really start to run out of jobs.  Thanks.

EDIT: Oh one other thing.  I just bought a fresh copy of the game (Deluxe) and installed it on my computer and before doing anything else downloaded the SKU1 patch.  However, the website says that the SimCity_1.dat thru SimCity_4.dat files would change in size which they have NOT...Could this be the issue?  (I had an old old disc of SimCity 4 which didnt accept the patch either.   Uninstalled that one before installing the new one.)

Hey, belgare!

Hmmm...the reason for your problem is that you do, in fact, have too many jobs available and not enough people to fill them.  The total amount of C + I jobs should always equal quite a bit less (about 1/2 - 3/4) than the number of Sims in your town (because not all of your Sims work; i. e., children).  Build what the people want (more houses)...the demand bar will tell  you when you have enough.

Your installation problem is probably due to incomplete clean up when reinstalling.  Try this:

  1. Save your regions and plugins outside the game area
  2. Uninstall the game completely including the Documents part.
  3. Disk cleanup
  4. Disk Defrag
  5. Restart the machine
  6. Install deluxe
  7. Install your Update 1.
  8. Check your exe.  the version number should be 638.
  9. Install the update for bat night lights
  10. Check to see if the version is now 640.  If so, you are ready.
  11. Restore your saved region and plugins folders.
good luck.
