Yeh am still alive =P and yeh I still play and yeh I troll the forums every now and then. Just been soooo busy lately =/

I'm sure my problem has come up alot more often ^^
When I move the screen, edges star fading and darkening, as soon as it stops its back to normal. However it still makes the game unplayable.

hope you guys can help me out. Equinox said it had something to do with certain files in my SC4 Program files folder wich could have been missing. These files however are present so I dont know whats up.

A couple of things occur to me:

Page thrashing caused by a fragmented paging file or not enough RAM.

Over running your graphics system.

To get a handle on this problem we need much more information.

  1. Which version of the game are you running (look at the .exe and give the version number)?
  2. What operating system are you running?
  3. What is the configuration of your machine?

to me it looks like a vertical sync issue, along with the refresh rate of your monitor. it's a common problem if u have SLI enabled system, and are running 2x GPU's.

the thing is, i dont think SC4 supports vertical sync option unless it's in the backround somewhere.

either that, or perhaps a GPU driver problem....would u be running with ATI??

    Windows Xp Home edition

    Pentium 4 CPU 2.80Ghz

    1,00 GB DDR RAM

    Geforce 7800 GS 256

The game ran just fine on this system. Then one day it went bad. Now as far as I know I changed nothing other than perhaps some new building plugins. I tried to run the game while removed these. No result, still fades. I´m starting to wonder if my Graphics card might have been fried a little or something. It doesnt have any physical dmg as far as I could see. Perhaps a change of driver or DirectX update might have had an effect?

System looks ok.  If this came out of the blue, maybe your GPU is in trouble, like dying.  To check this, try running in Software Rendering.  After you set it, restart the game for it to work.

Well, not to be surprised if software rendering slows things down and messes up the frame rate.  You are now really overloading your CPU.  However, if the fading problem has disappeared, that pins it directly to your graphics system.

    Suggest the following steps:

    1.  Check the manufacturer's site for your graphics card to see if there are newer drivers or any fixes.

    2.  Run DXDIAG from your run box and check especially all the graphics tests.  If no result then

    3.  Run the troubleshooter for your graphics card or a test suite if you have one.

You many have to replace your graphics sub-system.

No result, tests came through, + I cant seem to find a troubleshooter =/

I tried running other games, Black and white 2 has some difficulty in starting up but thats just some memory that nees to be processed, after that it runs smoothely.

Thinking of reinstalling SC4, might that make a differance?

A reinstall is worth a try.  Delete the game first, it will ask about releasing your files, and you can say no to keep them.
