I was trying to download my first map here and put it in the game. (CharlotteNorth Carolina). I read the instructions that were posted to get it in the game, but the city never shows up in the menu where you can load the regions.

I did make a folder in the regions folder and called it charlotte.

I did safe the config file in that folder (it came with the download)

And I also did safe the jpg (grayscale) in that same folder.

When it didn't work I also copied a region.ini and pasted in the folder and changed the region name to charlotte.

But so far the region does not show up in the game. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Feempy

Did you press Ctrl-Alt-Shft-R to start the import process?

Putting the files in the folder is just the start. Once you have done this you need to press Ctrl-Alt-Shft-R. Then a file chooser box will appear and you need to browse to your jpeg map file. Then your computer will start to render the map. This could take a while (5-45 minutes depending on map size and computer speed). Leave your computer alone while it does this. When completed you should have your region ready to play on. If there are flat parts where there shouldn't be, then something interrupted the render.

Shouldn't you do this after you selected your area in the game (so you have a complete flat area)?? Because the problem is that I can't see my area in the menu.

Anyway I tried what you said, but if I load my jpg, I get an error about the size. The jpg is 1024x1024 and the map I want to load it on (San Fransisco) was 2048xsomething.  So that didn't work.

Freempy: There are good instructions in the Omnibus/Omnimaps, but here are the steps for creating a region.

    With the game shut down.

Create a new folder in the C:\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions folder.

Name it with the name of the region you would like.

    Copy the config.bmp file there.

Start the game, load the region you just made.

Do the key press [shift ctrl alt R] browse to the grayscale [*.jpg] and select it.

If the name of the grayscale doesn't show in the selection box below when you select it,

you will need to type the name of the grayscale.jpg in the box.

The hour glass will appear if all has been done right, and the cities will cycle, but no terrain will show yet. When it is done with the render your region should be terraformed.

The config file needs to be in the folder before the game loads

Ah here is where it went wrong:

Create a new folder in the C:\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions folder

I placed all the files in the other Regions folder (Program Files\Maxis\Sc4\Regions).

The area works now..4.gif The only problem now is that there is no water where it should be.

Some maps need a "height mod", in the plugins while being rendered.  That is often not mentioned by the creator.  The most common one is the "import.dat"

MallowtheCloud has a "height mod pack" [link] which has several mods included.  You may have to experiment to find the right one.
