41.gif* ...comes into room quietly and looking around hoping that he has been just  fine as a moderator and being most polite with the newcomers...*41.gif

I have seen it what you are talking about19.gif and sometimes I wish I could correct another Moderator or admin, but only the Dirktator has that power15.gif.

I think Bullies are a part of the world, that's just a way we will have to accept them. Of course there are some Moderators and also admins (hm21.gif) that bully sometimes. but mostly they have been chosen because of their neutral behavior and judging.
Then there are members that only come to bully and some might catch a bad day and should kick their own A** in front of the mirror instead of coming to Simtrop in this precise moment of their anxiety. But this is what a community is all about. (Vivre la Difference) ...and this happens all over the net, believe me. Let me tell you, I am a Moderator on two other sites (very different subjects also)and this one has the most friendly Community in general of them all.

Shinagava, 2.gifWelcome to Simtropolis and we all hope you will enjoy your stay ( and don't bother with those bullies......18.gif

i think that there should be a notification in the registration area, to tell people to read the rules, and do some explaining on how some stuff works and how to do certain things, maybe rude members caused a drop in 1000 members about july, august, or september.

If I remember correctly, I could be wrong, there is I think it is in the agreement that you have to sign to become a member, but I could be wrong.

@Dolfan348488  *ahem* Silence, Knave!  3.gif2.gif(even though you've been here much much longer than me)3.gif  What I mean is that I can tell y'all that from a newbie point of view, this site is daunting.  I mean it is HUGE, and can be rather confusing at first, it took me a while to learn to follow the rules also.

This thread wasn't here yesterday but it's already got 2 pages of replies filled with comments by so many mods and admins!! 3.gif Boggles the mind, but I knew a thread like this one would surface one day, it was just a matter of courage.

Anyway, I've been here a while and one thing I've noticed is that the general level of tolerance for redundant threads has decreased dramatically. I remember the community of old (seems like a while ago 18.gif), where people would post threads that if, were redundant, would be closed, albeit with some nice comments to soothe the indignation, or whatever the $%&^! felt.

I also remember when mods and admins would actively participate in threads and would actually post helpful replies or when applicable, a honey-coated piece of constructive criticism. Maybe it's due to time constraints and/or the number of repeat threads posted but still, courtesy is an integral part of ST and is what makes this community so great. 40.gif Perhaps if it's due to the problems mentioned, why not appoint more mods to share the workload??

I dug up some old (think January-March  2003) threads and the first thing that struck me was the amount of playful, fun banter that was posted, a large proportion of it by admins and mods. Granted, noobs here may repeat the same mistake again and again, but it's vitally important to remember that you're not dealing with a repeat offender. If you (an admin or mod) gave the first $%&^! a nice reply, what's there stopping you from giving the 1000th $%&^! who makes the same mistake the same, equally nice reply?? The 1000th $%&^!, like the first $%&^!, made an honest mistake or was blithely ignorant and should be treated with the same courtesy given to the firsy $%&^!. 19.gif Emotions like anger and frustration should not be directed at an innocent $%&^!, who, through no conscious fault of his own, got on the wrong side of you.

Granted, people should read the rules first but for some (me included), ST is/was the first online community they've every participated in and they don't know the intricacies of forum etiquette or some of the more esoteric of the rules. 19.gif I'm lucky in the fact that I only became an active member about a month and a half ago and so knew the basic procedures, but even I quailed when it came to posting something that contradicted (however slight) an admin or mod. 19.gif

G4ce made a particularly trenchant point. The $%&^! you tell off today might have been the NDEX or skigeek of tomorrow (no offence meant at the comparision NDEX and skigeek 18.gif).

On the flip side, admins and mods have the power and the responsibilty to rein in offending posters and the occasional troll that strays through the sacred gates of ST, and members should show respect on account of their greater experience and better judgement. 19.gif

Btw Dolfan348488, such a comment was precipitate given that there are sometimes mitigating circumstances when noobs break forum rules. 19.gif. And I have been here since September 2003 unlike SC4 meister (no offence meant SC4meister). 18.gif

I have noticed an increasing of people who send in messages, make comments ect. being put down in rather abrupt terms lately. Almost always by people with little medals next to their avatar and usually because the members made a mistake such as posting on the wrong forum. No doubt these people have made a sizeable contribution to the game but can someone reign in the zeal with which they are scolding people.

Some people actually do it for fun, which is undoubtelly rude, When I was a newcomer I posted a thread about getting welthy buildings in the City Journal forum, some people replied me with sarcastic comments until a moderator moved it to Sim City 4 open discussion.
I admit i pick on newbies sometimes but I only do when they start to troll around, or when they start bashing simtropolis and its creator.

I think there needs to be some balance.  If you're a n00bie, you should be given some time to know the rules.  For the vets, you're just asking for trouble. 21.gif

Give the newbies and n00bies a chance.  Maybe I need to lighten up as well... a little, anyway. 3.gif

I never go after newbies around here unless they are blatantly and purposely breaking the rules.

Just follow them! We'll all get along!

If not, then you are asking for trouble...14.gif

This problem ist just a problem of anonymity...
Imagine most of the things said by these 'bullies'
would be said out here ...in the four dimensional world! 2.gif
Imagine their ,maybe ,half smiling ,cynical faces.
In most cases things would not 'escalate' like this.

Not everything is understood how it was meant to be...

And if somebody is really trying to attack you here - don't underestimate the power of ignorance!

Just saw an BBC documentation on that topic some days ago 1.gif

40.gif haw ... cute!
