What mods would be absolute necessities to creating a realistic looking airport? Also any others you would recommend.

I wouldn't say modds, but there are plenty of airport lots on the Stex that are amazing. To start off, I'd check out ace_bovenopdeberg's work. Here. Also just try searching airport related keywords on the Stex. Good luck.
