Okay... I finally decided to post my first CJ here... I have been a member for a year now, but I first posted today ^^
I'm so scared, my city is crap compared to some amazing cities out there, but I take the risk 3.gif
I will post the first screens taken from the game, several months ago, and I will update so you can all see how my city has grown since... february, when I fist started a CJ on another hp.
I built my city to look realistic, so don't expect to see billions of skyscrapers, only a few in the centre.
Pasadena is an american styled city (CBD in the centre of the city, huge suburbs and so on...) with a european transports system (no straight lines).
First house was built in 1753, by french settlers. It was then sold to England in 1796, and then became independant in 1815. The city then knew a hazardous history, as it was almost completly destroyed in the Great Fire of 1830. Everything had to be rebuilt.
But Pasadena survived to that. The city has now decided to look to the future, and is becoming an important regional city. The emblems of the city are the Eagle and the Lorraine Cross, a french christian cross.
Here we go!
Population of Pasadena: 117,695
Population of agglomeration (Pasadena Urban Community): 170,751
Population of metropolitan area: 209,496
Commercial jobs: 118,395
Industrial jobs: 142,489
Total of jobs: 260,884

Commercial and industrial firms are going through a big crisis as they can't find enough workers. Many of them close... I hope I can find a solution pretty quickly or it will be a big pain in the ass...

Regional view:
region23ok.jpg

Transports map:
region0yq.jpg
Pasadena owns a very complete freeways system. A big freeway boulevard circles the city, burried at the south of the city. Speed limitation: 110km/h.
2x2 boulevards (white) are limited to 70km/h.
Urban Community also owns an International Port (at the south), and a regional airport (west side of the city).
The railroad system is also very complete, as Pasadena can rely on several lines leading to the centre (INRS: Inner City Railroad System), entirely funded by public funds.

Administrative map:
administration2fc.jpg
Pasadena Urban Community is composed of 13 cities. Metropolitan area counts 3 cities more (Banyuls at the north east, Ares and Cypress Hill).

Let's now focus on the south part of Pasadena:
Pop $: 16,324 (29,7%)
Pop $$: 20,000 (36,2%)
Pop $$$: 18,844 (34,1%)
Homogenic population. However, considering the 34,1% of wealthy citizens, Pasadena remains a rich city even tough the almost 30% of poors. 10% of social housing that each city of the nation has to respect is x3 in Pasadena, showing that the city cares about social program.

General view of South Pasadena:

Inside the city:

Burried freeway:
autoroutesouterraine6gl.jpg

Saint Seurin Cathedral:

Built between the XVIIth and the XVIIIth century, this cathedral is one of the most visited places of the whole city.

Pasadena Central Library:
bibliocentrale0vy.jpg
It owns more than 300,000 books, in most of spoken languages, if you order the foreign books you need 1.gif

Ocean's 27:

Best place do dance... but drunk! and meet chicks 3.gif

View of the centre:

Regional Council building:
conseilregional3lr.jpg
The Regional Council is what administrates a region (equivalent of a State in the US) in my country, France. Sorry if it doesn't tell you anything lol
This 12 stories buildings was completed in 1998, due to increasing demand of administration in the region.

Two churches:

Reformed Church of Pasadena:

Pasadena houses an important Protestant community 1.gif

The City Hall:
hoteldeville2df.jpg
One of the oldest buildings of the city, built in 1832 after the Great Fire.

Meridian Hotel:
hotelhilton2sc.jpg
Because Pasadena also needs some rich tourists, the Meridian was built on an island, in the middle of the Flynder River. A bridge was also built only for the hotel, which owns a beautiful wooden park.

ICW Headquarters (Industrial and Commercial Welfare):

One of higher and most beautiful building of the city.

Improvisation League:
liguedimpro6vv.jpg
It's here where young comedians learn the job... best place to become successful in comedy... or tragedy 1.gif

Pasadena Memorial Hospital:
memorialhospital3of.jpg
With a capacity of 10,000 places, the biggest of the region. It's also a big psychiatric hospital.

The Van Gogh Museum:

Well, I have nothing to say on that one l

wow, that's a beautiful city, very colorful. keep it up 44.gif

and i think you need to just get rid of some commercial and industrial buildings, the problem is that you have too many of them.

Actually I think that looks really nice! A lot better than how my CJ (and many others here) started out. The transportation map is something to marvel at, although in my opinion, a bit too curvy considering your terrain is not that hilly (but don't go changing it now or anything... 1.gif). Nice sized center city, and impressive spread of the suburbs. I agree, if you have commercial and industrial buildings with no jobs, just demolish them and build houses.

And your English is quite good actually.

    *Update*
Now you have discovered the south part of Pasadena, let's take a look at the west suburb of it. There are 3 cities there, called Elvetia, Lakemark and Harrisburg.
    Population of the map: 29,088
    Pop $: 2,355 (8,1%)
    Pop $$: 17,223 (59,2%)
    Pop $$$: 9,512 (32,7%)

Few poors, a majority of middle class houses, which shows we are in a random suburb 1.gif

    Commercial jobs: 8,401
    Industrial jobs: 33,458

    General view:

Like the rest of the Urban Community, the west suburb is very green!

    Elvetia:

The city of Elvetia, one of the most important in the Urban Community, at night.

    Random shots:

    WWII Memorial:
    clocktower6ib.jpg

Like any city of the Nation, Elvetia suffered from massive deportations during the Second World War. The clock tower was built in 1951. Two columns, emblem of Liberty, were added in 1964.

    A mall:

The brand Auchan (french brand) settled in the PUC in 1991, building one of the monst important malls of the region. It's just a few hundred metters far from the freeway.

    Centre of Elvetia:

Centre of Elvetia. You can see the Place des Innoncents, which is also a big round about. PUC (Pasadena Urban Community) building was also built in Elvetia (dark building). President of the PUC: Emis Lones, Mayor of Pasadena. Pasadena Urban Community is a kind of urban council, where all mayors from each city in the urban area meet in order to discuss projects for the city. Now in discussion: the creation of a boulevards belt around the hyper centre of Pasadena).

    Stadium of Banyuls:

Big tennis complex owned by the PLTC (Pasadena Lawn Tennis Club). It was built early in the XXth century, and hosts the Internationals of Banyuls Gate (31 millions $ of gifts). Iit was named after the city of Banyuls, in the north east suburb, as its mayor wanted to build a international tennis stadium at the end of the XIXth century. Unfortunatly, his project was cancelled as Banyuls is located in a protected area, and because of the poor road infrastructure. It was built a few years later in Elvetia.

    Arc Associates:

Arc Associates is a big architect firm specialised in the urban projects in rural/semi rural areas. It hasn't been built in Pasadena, but in Elvetia, due to its exceptionnal landscape.

    Random shot:

The freeway between Elvetia and Greenlake, the last city west of the PUC.

    Jacquemart Cathedral

    Oriental styled.

    Greenlake:

    Random shots:

    Its marina:

Know in the whole region for hosting the most beautiful yachts of the wealthy citizens... it has an exceptionnal landscape, just in front of the Bruges Bridge.

    Sup Elec:

One of the numerous specialized and famous schools of the agglomeration, Sup Elec is specialized in producing ingeneers in electronics.

    Sainte Croix Hospital:
    hospital9vl.jpg
Built in the XVIIth century, the oldest of Pasadena.

    Greenlake nuclear power plant:

At the south of the city, it produces the electricity for a big part of Pasadena. An emergency center was built beside of it, in case of danger. It's here where firemen and governement agents do the emergency exercises.

    Bruges Bridge:

Bruges Bridge, express access to Pasadena Airport.

    The Airport:

Only a regional airport for a city of this size.

    Harrisburg:

    Random shot:

    A giant train... here too...

    Pasadena National Orchestra House:

Beautiful structure of 1920s, open sky. Nevertheless, needs require the construction of a covered opera, now in discussion at the PUC.

    The skating rink:

    Closed for insalubrity.

    Harrisburg Green Area:

The Green Area is a kind of haven for several species (insects in majority). Building something here is strictly forbidden, and the airport was built in the 70s after 20 years of juridic fight with ecologists.

Please make sure all pictures are 800x600 or less

West suburb trip is over 19.gif
Hope you enjoyed it, comments are welcomed 1.gif
I will try to update that tomorrow! 44.gif

    Pasadena looks beautiful and realistic...

Don't worry about your topic sinking, it happens with Dynasty here all the time, it's still on the first page, but at SCC it's on page 19. Just keep on going.

Considering the poor interest of this topic, I decided to close it with 3 screens, as my city is TODAY (cause last screens were taken few months ago).

So, to end this, I will show you the general view, the transportation map and the latest administrative map.

What are you on about?! This is a cool CJ, NOT crap at all! Interest will pick up, if you think there's very little. The start of any CJ is tough, you just need to persevere and you will do great. I think your pics have great detail and the regional looks good.

So, KEEP IT UP!!! Good luck.

Howdy moneymail, a couple of things:
    1) somewhere in the deep deapths of the City Journal forums is my first city journal. with its 7 replies. Three by me. That is right...4 replies by other users. and THAT was a very bad region. the system ate them a while ago, but i should re-upload them so people can see how REALLY bad a city journal can be. mine was historical bad...classical bad.
    2) yours is not bad. in fact, i like what i see from the region shots - it looks like your cities are put together quite nicely and realistically. it should be interesting to see where you go from here.
    3) make sure all your pictures are 800x600. even hosted off site...it causes a scroll issue, and some of us enjoy reading the text which comes with the pictures without having to scroll 29.gif
    4) don't get frustrated with lack of replies. early on, it can be rather tough to get replies. with all of the journals out there, it is very easy to get buried. once had to search for three pages to find a journal which had been updated the previous day. just keep doing what you are doing (though i would like to see 800x600 pictures), and the replies will come. plus, there are many people who look at the journals and don't reply...not because they don't like it, it is just that what has needed to be said has already been said.
in other words, not everyone is willing to make long, rambling posts like...uh...well...mine.
keep up the great work...and just keep plugging away at it.

    Whisper words of wisdom

Your CJ is good. Don't close it. There are many famous CJs which initially had very few replies and comments.

I thought you had a pretty good list of initial comments - many more than some CJ's get.

I am pretty impressed with what I've seen of your region so far - way better than mine 1.gif And I would like very much to see more of it - it looks like you've put alot of work into it and you've done a great job so far - sometimes you just get more comments than other times.

Also, don't forget that, at least in the US, it's a holiday weekend, so many people that might normally comment might be away from home, or away from the computer with family and friends.
