For some reason, i can't get my city to build past 47,000.  I put in residential zones and put parks, schools, hospital, and still nothing.  Is there something wrong with my video card?...then my city starts with the zots.  When i put down my res area, i get the no car zot, then they might build, then i get the no car zot again and then they abandon.  Can someone please tell me why this happens and i what i need to do fix.

CANT WAIT TILL SIM SOCIETIES COMES OUT!!

first of all, this is in the wrong forum, secondly, it should be placed in the sc4 general discussion forum ( i think)

anyway, you might want to read some tutorials and such as they could help you out alot!!, but for the zots thing.....usualy you need to have roads that connect to some sort of job or something, or zone less space....good luck with this though!!

It's not your video card.

Either:

* you're running an original-release SC4 "vanilla" from when it first came out, and need to get the patch from the Maxis site to fix the old "rolling no-job zot" problem, or

* Adding services made a bunch of medium- and high-wealth Sims move in, and there are no jobs for them yet, or

* You've maxed out your computer's CPU, and now the "zone development" engine is so far ahead of the job-finding engine that they've lost coordination.   Once a residential building appears, the residents have six game-months to find a job.  If your computer has slowed down to the point that the job-finding engine can't get around to the new Sims in that time frame, they'll abandon.

If that's the issue, never play large city tiles, unless they're mostly water.  256x256 is just too big for all but the fastest most modern machines.  And if you're using the NAM "perfect pathfinding" plugin, consider simplifying your street grid and switching to the "better pathfinding" version.  That saves a lot of CPU, allowing for more Sims.

That's about all I can think of.
