Possible Request: Looking for a GIANT (I mean giant) Flat Map

I'm looking for a region that is immensely giant, very big, large, gargantuan, humongous, and other adjectives for big; not to mention flat, yes completely flat, basically nothing special about it at all. And it has to be nothing but medium tiles.

I figured the best solution would be to make this region somehow myself but I figured I'd post it here just in case someone wanted to do it for me or already had something like that. I want this region mainly to completely shatter the simcity 4 region population record. And keep it for eternity, yes, forever. Plus I enjoy making these extremely giant cities and the challenges that come with them.

JanHammer:

If all you want is flat, with no terraforming, that is pretty simple. Just create a bit map image, name it config.bmp, copy it into a newly created region folder.

A the city sizes are determined by the number of pixels, and the color of the pixels.

Medium cities are green, 2x2 pixels, so make the config.bmp size divisible by 2, all green. If it is not big enough the first time you can always edit the bit map to make it larger. That might be the way to start, a 32x32 pixel would make 256 meduim cities. When you get those done just make the config file larger.

Awesome, BIG thanks tungston. And dadyrghluv, that's all? I can do that in a week probably. My last region had 42 million then I got bored of it because I ran of room to experiment.

well then 101 million should be easy. i haven't done a region over 1 million+ so i have not a clue how to do it. that large would be something of an accomplishment for me.

goodluck on your region. show some pics of it when u get a chance.

Yeah I'll need luck, mainly to keep myself motivated to do this (I'm not entirely happy that I have to abandon my 46 million pop. region, I spent a long time making that pretty).

You can edit the config file of your 46 mil region to add more cities.  Just add pixels to the bottom, and/or the right side of the image.  Of course if that region has all the same size cities you don't have to worry about where the pixels are added.

Caution:  Backup [copy] the region before you make changes.

Hmmm, I'll try that, I'd really prefer to keep working on it as it's already really awesome.

I just wanna post some thing I thought up here. When you start, make a completely mixed city [industrial, residential, and commercial] Once it gets to about, oh, 100 or 200 thousand population/jobs, build a pure residential, a pure indiustrial and a pure commerce city around it. Connect the four cities up. Let them grow to 100,000 population/jobs. Then build more pure R,C and I cities. Let them get to 100,000 pop/jobs and then build more pure cities and so on and so forth.Make sure they're connected. Soon enough, the first city's utilities won't be enough to fuel the growing megalopolis. You need to make a city that is pure utilities.Divide the city into thirds by making a stretch of road every 42 squares. In the middle road make it an avenue on the west side.On the first third of the city, make a grid of streets in a new city, leaving 8x8 squares. On the second, divide it into rows 2 tiles wide. In the last, encircle this zone with a street. On the east street of the third part, place a line of garbage burners [whatever they're called, I just forgot], place a line of garbage recycling plants on the north and south streets, and fill the remaining space in the last third with landfill. In the middle sector fill it in with water aquifers. Demolish 2 streets and place huge amounts of water desalination plants there. In the first third fill it up with the most powerful power plants you can get.Connect these to the megalopolis, then obliterate the start city and replace it with a 'pure' city. Continue the cycle and keep on building on your spreading megalopolis until you fill up the map. Then work the hell out of yourself and your cities by working your ass off on every city's residency,commerce/industry,and population/jobs until they're collapsing and gasping for breath. Lol, I was joking a bit.But build on it until it can't get any bigger. And you should have your population record. I never actually tried this but it should work. I think I'll try this next week though. It'll be a 32x32, so I don't beat you.
