I am not getting brown boxes from buildings I installed, from the STEX mind you. Those work fine. But a lot of residential and commercial lots that came with the game which were previously working fine and now in brown boxes. I installed (or am pretty sure I did. I only dropped the .DAT file into the plugins folder)  both of the Building and Vehicle prop downloads from the official EA site, and still nothing happened. Does anybody know why?

    RCI revenue mod

    Superdemand mod

    No Dilapidation mod

how do i fix this? do i have to not use any plugin or what?

All Your problems with boxes ARE - you haven't Props or Models for your lots - no more ....

Try look for this with SC4TOOLs by Andreas Roth !!!

Or You can try look your files with Lot Editor ...

The boxes appear on the DEFAULT MAXIS BUILDINGS. I'm not talking about downloaded lots here. I didn't even download any.

u could be missing the bldgprop_vol1 and bldgprop_vol2 from Simcity.com. basically these are props that maxis forgot about for the default buildings in the game. u can find them here on our site as well, but where specifically i do not know

dadyrghluv, I d/led those 2 files and put them in plugins folder and i still have the problem on commercial growable lots 15.gif I tried bulldozing the "infected" building but more brown boxes appeared later on.

How the hell did maxis "forget" those props anyway and why didn't they include them in the patch anyway? seriously they make great games but they have the worst customer support ever

that could be why! u need SC4 RH to download most building/BAT's on the STEX. otherwise u end up with brown boxes. have u downloaded anything latley?

EDIT: what region are u playing the game in? did u download the right region patch for your game?

Dude no those aren't buildings I downloaded those are built in maxis growable buildings. I didn't download any lots or props from here or anywhere else. the game is fresh installed and patched and thats it. except for the 3 plugins i mentioned a few posts above but they have nothing to do with buildings.

    I'm playing the default region

With SC4 Basic you don"t need the "Bldgprop_vol2.dat", I would suggest you delete it from the plugins folder.  Those two files are only for use with the Lot Editor anyway, they have nothing to do with the game default lots.

I had this problem about a year ago. At this stage I'd been playing SimCity4 for about 2 years but I didn't even know you could get custom content! 20.gif (I'd never even been to Simcity.ea.com or simtropolis.com) and one day I randomly onpened one of my citys and about half of all the deflut Maxis buildings had brown boxes on the lots. I closed down the game, reset my computer and the problems went away and never came back. I would reccomend you tidy up your plugins folder though just to be sure.

Alright, you guys, pay attention to the user's posts.  He is having trouble with standard lots.  He is using a hacked version of vanilla, probably the no-CD patch.

Well, fella, you can't use most of the custom content from here at all.  Most of it is for Rush Hour/Deluxe, and it will raise hell with your version of the game.  Move all your plugins to some other folder, say, on your desktop for a temporary storage. And see if your brown boxes go away.

Mind you, you will get brown boxes for any custom content you just moved out.

Now, you should regularize your game.  Save your Regions folder (you've already saved your plugins) to your desktop as well.  Then delete the game, and reinstall it from the original or go buy a copy of deluxe and get some real benefits.  If you can't get deluxe, get a Rush Hour.  Install the original game, no fixing.  Install Rush Hour and register it.  While you are there, get Update 1 and install that.

At this point your game executable version should be 1.1.638.1.  This also applies if you just install deluxe.

At this point you can use any custom content we have, but do get those building props files in.

Now, if you get a virtual CD product, you can copy your play disk (disk 2) onto your hard drive using a full geometry copy.  Create the VCD on drive X:.  You now start the game from the shortcut and everything should be cool.

You will need the BAT night lights update if you want your custom buildings to light up at night.  You do not need the BAT, just the fix, which can be found on this site.  The sticky for it is over in general.

I have this problem too and I believe that I know the source. I have found the issue on 3 separate computers AFTER registering the game online. My guess is that a hidden file is installed by EA and i want to know how to remove that.

    any help would be appreciated

It's a bit erratic, but I registered from simcity.com and the boxes say the same.

If you have the SC4Tools, you can check to see where the lot is coming from.

Can you tell what size the lot is? Hover the bulldozer over it, that should show the lot in red.

I have the deluxe, and now the issue has extended to my downloads.

Please start a new topic, and describe the issue in detail, and post an image if possible.
