Must Have Downloads?

I've had Simcity 4 sitting on my shelf for awhile now.  I thought, hmm why not start playing again?  So could anyone refer me to the must have mods and downloads for this game?  I remember something like....NAM being a important download but when I search it I don't know exactly what to download.  Could someone help?

This assumes you have either Rush Hour or Deluxe, because most downloads apply only to these.

First, make sure you have the updates for the game from simcity.com.  You need the basic update in order to run your game properly.  You also need the second one (from the BAT download menu) to see night lights on user content BAT's.  You do not need the BAT.

Now, beyond that, what you get depends on your style of play and your goals.  The Network Addon Mod (NAM) adds considerable functionality to the road network that was not in the original game.  I consider this to be needed because it also gives you corrections to the path finding algorithms with several choices of how you want the game to run.

You should get the Opera House Fix before you build any Opera House lots.  This is a fix for an error in the way the game handles civic funding in certain lots.  This is mandatory.

After that, you should play for a while, and make your decision based on where you want to go with your playing.

In any case, create a default layout region called "Sandbox" in which to test everything you download.  Each individual lot or modd should be put in one at a time, and tested with the stuff you already have. 

Because of the very large number of things you can download now, there is danger of conflict in the Exemplar keys.  If you get one of these, something will quit working or the game will fail, so you need to take great care.

Beyond that, be aware that the NAM does not contain any lots.  Only transporation pieces.  So for example, if you want a station for GLR trains, you have to download one from a site.  If you use extensions to the NAM, you may well want to download the NAM essentials file.  Be careful with this, as it supports parts of the NAM that have be separated from it for management purposes.

I can't find the right NAM download. I really don't get what to download for NAM.

NAM is in the modds and downloads section.

You will also have to download NAM Essentials https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=18239

If you go to the Stex you can search NAM and you will also find different types of bridges you can add to the game.

get the NAM (Network Add on Patch)...if you can.

The Opera House Fix mod is almost essential if you want the Opera House in your city without ruining your education.

Otherwise, you can check out various mods and patches in the same place. Some might appeal to you.
