City Jails or Prisons?

I have a new region with about 200,000 Sims spread over like eight seperate cities.  I really don't use police at all, but most citizens are demanding a City Jail in all my residential towns.  Now I am wondering if I have to build a Jail in each city or if I can have just one in the region?  And when I get a prison, do I need more than one, or will all the regions criminals go to the prison?

I think you have to build a jail in each individual city, it's just the way the game works. But if you put in enough police then you'll never need a jail (Because police stations have small jail capacity), I don't use them. Hope this will help!

well you have to use a certain zize police station for prison capacity. adn yes you need a jail in every city sadly

Try dumping in a police station in the center of each city.  You probably don't need the expense of prisons.  Watch out for those advisors, they have self-aggrandizing agendas.

Thanks everyone for your replies. N_O, I have seen that the advisors can be rather dumb at times. I went ahead and planted a Jail in one of my larger cities and it only housed around 80 prisoners. Now, from what the Advisor was saying, it made it seem like I really, really needed one.

well if oyu ever get bored of them theres anoption to shut them up ( one of my favorites)
