    thanks for the compliments.

I've encounted a problem with the subway layout. In parts of brooklyn and I think the Bronx there are transitions from subway to open cut/right of way design.)Basically just below surface practically right in people backyards.. I've thought about using GLR to simulate that but it doesn't seem right. The surface underneath the rails are too concrete looking ,even the rural one. And then what station would I use, passenger? Ugh. that should be for the LIRR/commuter stations. I got the NDEX transitions but that actually switches the connections, I think? .Underneath the rails should look just like regular rail, but I also want to keep it part of the subway system. Does anyone know any workaround/downloads to simulate this? I've thought about sunken elevated (particularly for the station) but it doesn't look right either. I dunno yet. Gonna start placing the over 300 underground subway stations and tubes tonight! Till next time

I'm back again with an update. I'm in the process of placing the sub/el/commuter rail lines right now. Almost finished. Also almost done with the ferries. Got some screenies of some of the spaghetti junctions of the subway tubes in the downtown areas.. All the subway stations and elevated stations are done, just have the open cut/embankment sections to work on. I am still using the default subway stations now, but will probably flip over to the road top once I complete the network. I downloaded an embankment set, although the underpasses weren't as good as I thought they would be (extremely hard to place and sometimes out of synch with the diagonal roads) I think it was Marrast's?. so I just used the embankment without the underpasses. The open cut sections are going to be tough. I can do the straight parts, but I need a way to do diagonal sunken (rail) with road overpasses at street level. There is no diagonal on slope piece that I could find on the NAM.. I'm gonna try doing it over GLR tonight.

I had to make some concessions doing the el's. As most of the lines are directly over road, there is no diagonal el over road piece, so I could only do straight portions like that, otherwise they run next to the road.

All the commuter stations are in place with the exception of a couple. It brings up the road under rail issue for me. Is there a mod texture that gets rid of that ugly red cobblestone underneath the road?? Also are there any elevated commuter stations???. I really need one for the Metro-North on 125th in Harlem.....and some others...

I'm also in the process of redoing the road/street network in Long Island and Jersey (and ultimately Staten Island) of changing most of the roads to streets. I got

Back with an update. It's been awhile, as I got caught up in a few other personal matters.

The transit network is complete with the exception of the complex highway interchanges (haven't decided how accurate I want to be with them and I am finding that recreating most of them is a daunting task at this point, maybe I'll get better with the puzzle pieces as time progresses) and changing most of the roads to streets. In Manhattan I am going to leave most of them as streets even though they are mostly one ways. I feel the one ways have too much capacity and would not create the traffic pile ups inherent in the borough.

While I am doing that I'm also putting in the zones and most of the services. I figured I would do it by "city" and in "rounds" meaning after each round I will strive for more detail and accuracy. By using district zoning maps I am trying to accurately reflect the proper zonings of the neighborhoods. And by using Google earth I am placing the most of the services and refine the density of the zones (by the height of the buildings and such).

Parks(just have trees outlining these areas, Central,Bronx and Prospect Parks will be a b***h) plazas ,playgrounds, cemeteries(will be using downloaded packs), water (ponds, also will use some downloaded material) will be done during the next round as placing clinics (not sure what to use for these,...EMS?, Free standing health?Nursing Homes?,lol , I want to be consistent) Also I will plop some specific buildings and skyscrapers like the Guggenheim,Rockerfeller Center and of course some downloaded material at that time. I also might consider fooling around with program to alter the frequency of certain types of Maxis building to substitute some custom content (I'd like to get those "X" shaped projects you see so prevalent in the city for my dense residential...)

I have done a few cities, [Cloisters/Upper Manhattan/ Spuyten Deveil], [Fordham Univ/Bronx Zoo/Botanical Gardens], and [Washington Heights/Fort Lee] and have included some various shots of them.

I'm currently working on the midsection of Manhattan. Some observations are: I will have to pick the largest Private Schools,Worship Places and such as there are far too many to place in the city. Also, the Metro North commuter rail is usually sunken or elevated, but at this time I have chosen to keep it on the surface.

Any suggestions/advice concerning zoning, services, mass transit and the like, would be appreciated.

    Till next time
