  1. Plugins

Do the plugins apply to a existing region if it is resumed. I mean if I add a plugins and I go to a region does it affect the data in any of the regions even if I don't load up that region? I have 3 different regions I am working on. I just added a plugin.. I want to try it on region 1. I want to go into region 1 and see the results, but I don't want it to affect regions 2 and 3. I won't load 2 and 3 up, I just want to do a test on region 1. Hope this makes sense.
  2. Ya, the regional workforce. My question is why it is always exactly 2X the actual workforce, no matter what city I start, wheter if is a city in a existing region or a brand new city with no regional pop and no connections to any other city. Oh, and I know you can't get rid of the eternal commuters (tried that already), but what I'm gonna try to do is isolate each city until all the jobs are tapped out and start the next city, and so on, then when I'm finshed I'll connect them (starting from the suburbs) and run the sim and they can commute all day long or in circles for I care as long as some of them find their way to the CBD(Mid-manhattan) I've noticed it does matter in what order you run the cities in. It's better to start from the burbs and move to CBD so that they find the nearest jobs) Its just screwing up my residential demand right now and I already have massive underdevelopment in the middle ring of cities(neighboorhoods) away from the CBD). I can only imagine how the suburbs will be(Long Island being almost all residential) . The city will probably be a sea of green zones, LOL
  3. I do have a question about the report. Why is the workforce number on the right hand side always around 2x the actual workforce in the city. I tried it on existing and brand new regions. Same result. I can see if if you have neighbor connections this might be (but for me it is almost always EXACTLY 2X), but for a brand new city with no connections it does the same. And I can tell you (the OP) are definitely right about existing regions and the CAM. Yikes. After working on the 10th city I got so many eternal commuters I have -1million vacant jobs, and my region didn't even have that many to begin with!!. I mean 2 million eternal commuters????? My region has just barely has over 2million residents.. LOL. I gonna have to isolate each city until jobs fill up and go onto the next one before I connect them all, otherwise I'll never get any residential demand in large regions. I know about the loop and eternal commuting, but I am recreating New York City and I want to stay true to the transit network as best I can, I don't want to have to put all my connections in the middle of the city. Thanks for this great report, I learned a lot of how this game works on the commuting angle. (the game engine is definitely broken I'm afraid!)
  4. Hi! All I want to do is to change the frequency of certain Residential maxis buildings from appearing in the game and to change some of the capacity/jobs in some other lots. What is the easiest way to do this. I have no modding experience with this game. Which program should I get. Is there a tutorial for this, if so where. Maybe another thread. I couldn't find anything on this , thanks.
  5. Sorry, nevermind, I just found the link to the beta version 2 further down in this post. It was so small I missed it the first go around. Great program!!
  6. I downloaded the files but only got the simple screen. How do I get the advanced GUI?
  7. Ya, I was mistaken about the help. That was for datgen or some other program. The folder was empty. I still don't get the pictures for the building database for SC4 tool though. Don't see the file. Also I think SC4 tool may be a little too complex for what I want. I just want to have control over the frequency or ratios of what maxis building are built during the sim. Or to even block certain ones from being built.
  8. YA, I tried that, but the help folder is empty
  9. What is the best program/editor to alter the frequency at which particular RCI lots are built?. I would like to have some control over what gets built, or even eliminate certain buidings from even growing. I have no progamming knowledge, so it would have to be easy to use. I thought SC4 tool would work, but I don't understand how to use it, nothing shows up on the list of buildings just a bunch of hexidecimal stuff.
  10. My New York City Project

Back with an update. It's been awhile, as I got caught up in a few other personal matters. The transit network is complete with the exception of the complex highway interchanges (haven't decided how accurate I want to be with them and I am finding that recreating most of them is a daunting task at this point, maybe I'll get better with the puzzle pieces as time progresses) and changing most of the roads to streets. In Manhattan I am going to leave most of them as streets even though they are mostly one ways. I feel the one ways have too much capacity and would not create the traffic pile ups inherent in the borough. While I am doing that I'm also putting in the zones and most of the services. I figured I would do it by "city" and in "rounds" meaning after each round I will strive for more detail and accuracy. By using district zoning maps I am trying to accurately reflect the proper zonings of the neighborhoods. And by using Google earth I am placing the most of the services and refine the density of the zones (by the height of the buildings and such). Parks(just have trees outlining these areas, Central,Bronx and Prospect Parks will be a b***h) plazas ,playgrounds, cemeteries(will be using downloaded packs), water (ponds, also will use some downloaded material) will be done during the next round as placing clinics (not sure what to use for these,...EMS?, Free standing health?Nursing Homes?,lol , I want to be consistent) Also I will plop some specific buildings and skyscrapers like the Guggenheim,Rockerfeller Center and of course some downloaded material at that time. I also might consider fooling around with program to alter the frequency of certain types of Maxis building to substitute some custom content (I'd like to get those "X" shaped projects you see so prevalent in the city for my dense residential...) I have done a few cities, [Cloisters/Upper Manhattan/ Spuyten Deveil], [Fordham Univ/Bronx Zoo/Botanical Gardens], and [Washington Heights/Fort Lee] and have included some various shots of them. I'm currently working on the midsection of Manhattan. Some observations are: I will have to pick the largest Private Schools,Worship Places and such as there are far too many to place in the city. Also, the Metro North commuter rail is usually sunken or elevated, but at this time I have chosen to keep it on the surface. Any suggestions/advice concerning zoning, services, mass transit and the like, would be appreciated. Till next time Bronx Park/Zoo with Pelham Bay parkway Interchange Da Bronk.. oops typo there... Fordham University /Botanical gardens area... Parkchester, w/a little industrial zone nearby Broadway Bridge w/ Marble Hill commuter rail station nearby.. jerome park reservoir w/ school complexes, city college and jerome ave el (4 line) fort tyron park w/henry hudson pkwy, the cloisters and dyckman st. subway(actually is supposed to be open cut) station
  11. Maximum number of commuters

Yes!! Awesome, I was under the impression that after a certain amount the game either crashed or became unstable. Would you know what the bug I was referring to was? Thanks for the info
  12. What is the maximum number of commuters allowed within a city? Does this have anything to do with the 65535 bug, I remember a thread mentioning that but can't find it again... I mean can I have a city (mostly residential say about 400K with only 70K jobs) and a neighboring city (mostly commerical/industrial, filling up the demand created from the mostly residential city) and have say 150K commuters or so? Also is a net/net amount or just a flat 65K limit? Like can you have 100K coming in but 35K going out Probably sounds weird, but in order to create some realism in my NYC project, some 'cities' will have some heavy commuting going on.... Ultimately, I may have to zone some of that light commercial into medium commercial.in the mostly residential 'city'..... just don't want the big office buildings... well that's another topic for the future
  13. Can one-way roads be connected between 2 cities?. I have tried but I get nothing.
  14. New York City

Ya, I had a hard time with some NYC neighborhoods. I took the easy way out. I gridded entire neighboorhoods at either straight or diagonal orientation. (I hate zig zagging roads.) The individual neighborhoods look good, but when they sit beside each other they don't align correctly. And that dang Flatbush Ave. Not quite straight, not quite diagonal, ugh..
  15. Rail under road

Of course I checked the STEX. I'm not that green.. LOL The powers that be wouldn't have to worry about wasted server space if they had a better search function by the way... Oh well, I'll keep hunting....
