Welcome to Simtropolis.

Seems I sent you over here from Simcity.com, so for openers, here is a thread that makes a profit fairly early.

You should also look at the new members thead, and at the Omnibus, which is the best manual for the game that is arou nd.

As far as mods are concerned, the only one you really must have is the Opera House Fix which repairs a bug.

Later on, if you have Rush Hour or Deluxe, you may want to pick up the Network Addon Mod, but this one is complex and requires some real study.  It is equivalent to an expansion pack.

After that, it just depends on your style of play.  Before you get carried away, read the Plugin Mania thread over in Bugs and Technical Issues.

Enjoy your membership here and remember that the only dumb question is the one that never finds a voice.

Learn on easy. This is the only way to figure out what works and doesn't work. I say this because you get more money initially and less restrictions. This makes learning the boundaries of R,C, and I zones less stressful. Don't go for a beautiful city right away. Instead, try to learn the quirks of the game.

Welcome to Simtropolis, Thenewguy8t88!

Take some time building some cities without the intent of fully developing them just to get yourself acquainted with the functions of the game. Check out different ways to lay out roads and rail and see what kind of effect that layout has on your development. If you find something that works, take note and use it when building your future cities. If it doesn't work, not that and wipe out the city and start again.

Trial and error, along with reading the tutorials and tips on the forums is the best way to get acquainted with the game. You'll start to pick up on all the nuances of playing techniques (and there are MANY of them) and very soon you'll be able to get a profit making city up and running. One thing you should definitely check out is Rochefort's tutorial for starting a profitable city in a few years. I guarantee you it will definitely work. (I helped test it) You can use that method and see how easy it is to get a city growing quickly and making money as well.

Don't be overwhelmed by all the little pieces of the big puzzle. I can assure you, everyone here had lots of flops before they finally got their cities growing. That's why you have so many people here to help with advice and to give you techniques on how to make things work. We've ALL been there and we've all learned. And we've all found out it's not that hard once you get a few basic ideas and tools to use to develop you cities using your own personal methods.

Good luck! Keep us posted. We hope to see you in the CJ section in the very near future!
