Maps and Terrain

I really don't want to spend hours making a region's terrain by going to each and every city map and terraforming.  Plus, I'm not really that good at doing it.

Under the Omnibus, I found a mapmaking guide using USGS maps and a program called MicroDEM, but I couldn't get MicroDEM to work on my computer properly (it locked up loading a TIFF).

Are there any other ways of making a region's terrain map?  Or is there somewhere I can download some premade maps?

There are many great pre-made terrain maps on the STEX, but you might want to try your hand at regional terraforming with NHP's SC4Terraformer.  The learning curve is pretty fast, and you can achieve amazing results.

Hello, Mcallit.

As David (dedgren) has pointed out, there are a number of very good maps already made and available on the STEX.  New Horizons Productions have a number of extremely well made "real world" and fantasy maps from which to choose.  Also, many other SimTropolis members have their own very good maps available.

I would second the suggestion by David concerning downloading and using either the SimCity4 Terraformer application or the SC4Mapper application both written by wouanagaine.

I believe you'll find them easy to use and quite a bit of fun to "play" with.
