I'm having trouble importing regions

I'm having some problems related to importing regions.

Here's what I try to do:

Download config.bmp and the greyscale (specifically the map "Corsica")

Create a folder named corsica, place the bmp in the folder and the greyscale in the regular regions folder (for easy access and all that)

Open the game and load the region

Press ctrl+shift+alt+R and press OK on the greyscale

And then nothing.

I've tried putting the greyscale in the region folder, renamed the greyscale to "greyscale" (I was getting desperate), but nothing happens. The game doesn't freeze, it just stays the way it was. The region is correct in relation to the BMP file, but it's all flat grass.

It doesn't matter where the grayscale is located. What you need to make sure of is when you select the file, that the name shows up in the box below the file list. Sometimes when you highlight is in the list, it doesn't show up in that box. If that is the case you will have to type the file name in the box.

I encountered that in an earlier attempt, and corrected it. Still nothing. It should be noted that I've tried it with several regions, all are the same.

I was just having this same problem. Finally, I opened the grayscale in Photoshop, re-grayscaled it, then I made it darker using Adjustments, and it finally rendered. Then you have to open every city to see the effect in the regional view.  *edit* I darkened it until the water areas were completely black.

You might try renaming the plugin folder, so the game doesn't load it, and create a new plugin folder, leaving it empty. That way you would be sure you don't have a mod that is disrupting the process.

Simply re-grayscaling the image worked like a charm! Thanks for the tips.

What a strange problem.  But the suggestion on this page worked for me, too.

I downloaded the Dornelles map and couldn't get ctrl shift alt r to work.  I opened the image in Photoshop, grayscaled the image (click yes for discard color information), then saved it.  Now the map is working just fine.

But unlike FFVImaster, I didn't darken it at all.

I have found some maps that were not 8-bit gray scale.  All you have to do to fix them is load them into either the Landscape Designer or into your favorite heavy duty editor and make sure you get the right format.
