My one city, is having a problem with the date... it stops.

I cant get past 9/6/25  ... it just stops, all city development stops, but everything is still moving around etc.... the buildings stop building.

Im using SC4 Deluxe, no updates.

anyone know what might cause this to happen?

  1. Get the updates from the home site.  You need them.
  2. We can't help you if we don't know what machine you are running.  Please post your configuration, your Virtual memory settings, and your Plug in folder size.

I have tried to install the updates... something always goes wrong somewhere, and it never updates.

im running an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ 1.4GHz, 1GB RAM, 4096MB pagefile on a seperate drive (i think), plugins folder is less than 50MB.

It doesnt seem to stay frozen, but freezes for a LONG time, and then resumes, and freezes again.

what might have happened is that your cith has grown so large and use so many plugins that your p.c can't handle the processing for the game and has to pause the game to catch up with the game when it gets going again the game gets ahead of the p.c and it has to be paused. if you leave the game for long enough the game might update. Please say the size tile it is covering and the population of the city.

well i just reimaged my drive so fresh clean install of windows. and still have the same problem... i was also able to update the game as well, so i am running 1.638 or whatever it is.

also yes, ive stopped using art money.... this city was not altered with that program... i used a trainer instead 4.gif

but the date is still freezing.

keep in mine everything else works, and the game continues as normal, except for building development, or i guess anything that requires the date to be moving forward.

OK, well your machine is a little slow, but what is the population of your city, and what size tile is it on?  A heavily populated, large city has so much to do in the simulation loop it is not surprising the loop counter (date/time) doesn't get updated occasionally.  Naturally, this affects the messages to the GUI as well, so the game appears to stop.

If you look at this game with some instrumentation, the task manager for example, you will find that the cpu for this process is at 100%.  This indicates that the game needs your whole maching and more.

I wont argue that my machine is a little dated 4.gif But ive got it stripped and tweaked for performence, and while I do notice a slight bit of choppiness while playing, this is the first time ive seen the date actually stop for a really extended period of time.

This was happening when my city was only 40,000 people (it is now 150,000) while My other city of 150,000 was not showing the same problem.

both of them are on large tiles... i think. the biggest tiles in timbuktu.

Suggest you get off the Timbuktu region.  It has a lot of tutorial stuff attached to it.  You can move your new cities from there to a new region by using the imiport city command.  This is the faint gray control on the open city dialog in the lower left.

The rule is that you must load a city into a tile of the same size.

Before you attempt this, make a backup of your regions.  Importing a city moves it from one folder to the new one.  It will no longer be in the old folder (region).
