SF may be dirty, but the bridge isn't. I'd even go for the fact that I think the bridge is better than any other city. But it is a bridge, not a city. I still love it though, and think there's more to do at it than in the entire city of SF, or KS, or SD. By the way, there's new bathrooms there that talk to you when you're on the toilet.

see this sucks for me! i love BOTH cities DEARLY! but at an architectual standpoint kc as a lot more art deco and gothic but sd has more post modern. though kc has taller buildings, bigger stadiums, and by acres a bigger zoo.

kc has:

truman sports complex- two stadiums that many say revolutionized stadium building in that era.

swope park- the 3rd largest urban park in the country. upwards of 1000 acres larger then central park

the tallest habitable and unhabitable structure in mo.

the county club plaza!!!

the 2nd most fountains in the world behing rome

two of the top 15 most livable cities in america (overland park, olathe, both in ks)

neslon atkins art museum

and more that i cant think of.

I would say Kansas City, because It is a huge place out in the middle of no where and it has brought alot of people to the area, san diego is just a place for resorts and beaches and entertainment... and people could live with out san diego because L.A. is right up the coastline. With out L.A. San Diego wouldnt be as popular as it is now. There is not another big city around Kansas City for hundreds of miles, (besides St. Louis across the state). So overall i think Kansas City wins because it is a big place in the middle of no where and is still growing.

these cities are too different to compare IMO

Anyways, If I had to pick one to live in, I would pick San Diego, no contest.....KC is nice I'm sure, but San Diego has unique geography and other things that make it more interesting

I absolutely hate it when people say that the only reason San Diego is of any importance is because of LA folks.  What?  That's just typical LA people talk, thinking that they're the center of the world.  Unlike LA, San Diego actually HAS a downtown, and a great one to boot.  It has transformed so dramatically over the past decade, it's unrecognizable.  LA is just a mess, overcrowded freeways, completely decentralized, aged infrastructure, and just odd in some places.  And many of worn down warehouses in the East Village have been torn down for new gleaming condos, Petco Park being the catalyst for that.  And downtown is still growing, as well as the region, especially in terms of biotechnology and other technology firms.  The city has really cleaned up, and continues to develop.  And it has nothing to do with LA.

And if someone is looking for historical structures in SD, look no further than the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown and Balboa Park.  Balboa Park has the San Diego Zoo, the International Cottages where various nations are represented, several museums, loads of greenery, and that historic flair.  There's also Old Town, where SD's earliest times are showcased.  The Gaslamp is a wonderful place for restaurants, clubs, and a bustling night-life.  And if you want the harbor, just take a short walk, and you're in Seaport Village.  And the countless beaches of all types don't have to be mentioned.

But like mentioned, the city also has great geography.  You have access to beaches and the bay, of course, and access to mountains and deserts as well.  Could you say that about Kansas City?  I think not.

And I don't think you can just base the value of a city just based on it's architecture and new structures built.  It really depends on a variety of factors, like commuting, education, accessibility to entertainment and culture venues, affordability, infrastructure, etc.  The only drawback for SD is the high cost of living.  So just because KC has some interesting looking highrises, doesn't make it automatically a better city.

So my pick?  You just can't compare.  San Diego hands down.
