Update problem

I have a weird problem after reinstalling the game : I cannot install ANY update for SC4. the errro message is the same :

"Old file not found. However, another file of unknown version was found. Setup cannot proceed to update". (Translated form french. Not exact sentence but same meaning).

I would like to mannage to update my game in order to be shure some bugs aren't related to Maxis and it can be corrected.

I think that error mesage is in error. You can check the version of the file to see if it actually updated. I am not sure what the version number is for your area, I am assuming it's the France area.

Yup, its the french area. but I don't know how to know the version of these files.

And I know it did not update because some extra functionalities brought by the patches are not present.

If you use Windows, if you hover the pointer over the file, while in Windows Explorer, you should get the version. If you don't get the pop-up then you need to set that in the folder options.

I know. But I already tried with the european updates on EA.com : 1.0, 2.0 and 2.72 : all of them, and it does not work.

I think you need to give us more information on the game version , and the specific update you are trying to use.

The verson of SC4 main executable program is 1.1.638.0 .

I am trying to apply manually all of the updates avaible on ea.com. The versions of theses updates program are 1.0, 2.0 and 2.72.

Reinstall the game, you probably have a mix of versions installed.

I had the same problem and I figured out that I had an european version of Simcity 4 and a American Rush Hour translated to Spanish.

Skiper: I guess you didn't understand what I was asking for. Do you have SC4 basic version, Rush Hour Expansion, or Deluxe version? Are they all from the same region, i.e. America's, Europe, etc.?

Did you check the folder to see if those files [*local.dat] were present, because they most likely weren't updated [revised by Maxis].

I am too having the exact problem with the SimCity 4 update for the BAT.

I get the same error message as stated in the first message here. I have no idea how to fix this, I really want nightlighting on the BATs.

I have reinstalled the game and still not working. I have SimCity 4 Deluxe, European version updated to 1.1.638.0

I have SimCity 4 Rush Hour European version. Basic SimCity and Rush Hour are European. All files are present.

I only have region 1 version. But as many times as I have used the SC4update4BAT, I have not had that error message. So, I don't know why the the European version is having a problem. Maybe someone from that region will have an answer for you.

But during the game update, you will get that message in error. It's because not all files are revised, so when it doesn't update a file for that reason, and because error mesages are in limited supply, they don't always say what they mean.

European updates are not the same as european updates apparently :

Update 1 & 2 corretc major bugs and add new options

Patch 2.72 corrects some bugs with downloaded bats that would not have light during night.

Now, I have a simmilar problem updating The Sims 2.

An online technician told me to update InstallShield Wizard?!!

If you have Rush Hour, you should be using SKU 2. I don't know what the other 3 you mention are.

Before you update the Simcity 4.exe would have a revision of 1.1.610.0, after the update, even though it says 638, it will be 1.1.640.0.

The file sizes it gives to check for the update are all incorrect. It is beyond me why the site has not corrected that.
