If you mean how do you build the on and off ramps for highways then its simple just go on the highway section in the transportation menu and click on onramp and off ramp - there is a version for Ground Highway and Elevated Highway.

You should also try the NAM for new trnaposrtation tools and new highway tools.

As cleaner475 said get NAM it helps a lot. To get the latest you need to go to sc4devotion

The places where you should put the onramps and offramps are where you think the traffic is heavist

Use the route query button to find out

no.. I meant i don't know how to plan a Transportation network not how to build the question is where to place roads, avenues, Highways etc.

and how plan the city that i won't have to destroy buildings to build avenues and Highways/

Where To place The highways? this is a big question.. And i have more question, when i place an interchange from highway to avenue the sides of the exits, and entrances don't get connected and i can't Connect them i think this is a bug but maybe you have a solution?

There really isn't any "one plan fits all" when it comes to transportation, unfortunately. I haven't been playing SC4 long myself so I still come up against this same issue all the time.

I still find Highways and various surface mass transit (rail, GLR, Monorail) to be the most difficult to place. Highways require a lot of space due to their width, large turn radius and space needed for interchanges. Surface MT gives me problems because of the limited access points and the fact that once the sim reaches the last station, it's final destination must be reached either by foot or by a link to yet another form of MT. Also, I'm still unsure if surface MT needs to be in a complete loop and not just a line from A to B.

What I can answer is the problem with entrances to and from highways. The answer is lack of room. Interchanges of any kind need a lot of room. It's best to either build the interchanges before adding any zoning around it. What you can do is start a city on a blank map and plop down a bunch of highway sections and create various interchanges just to see what size each needs. You then drag a Res zoning around it and delete the interchange. The blank area left behind is the minimum space needed.

Do what is done in real life:

build around/under/over the mountains, and make bridges over the rivers.

One thing to consider is that the mountains and rivers are the things that the game throws at us to challenge us and ruin our plans for a perfect transportation network. For me, and I believe quite a few other players of the game, figuring out a way around those challenges when making the city is what makes the game fun.

For where you're at, I suggest avoiding developing areas near mountains, and when first building a city, use the ferry as the connection between two sides of a river. When demand warrants it, place a bridge of some kind.

That hit the spot. I once had the same problem when I started playing it back in '03/'04

I have another question for the transport system. I am sure this is covered somewhere but even by browsing the forum with keywords like "mono-rail" I could not find it. Maybe I use the wrong terms (my SC4 is in French). Sorry about posting a question which might be answered somewhere else already.

My city has grown and the traffic situation is quite bad now. Luckily I kept a 1 tile line free close to my mayor avenue running from the residential to the industrial area. Originally intended to have space for parks which keep the smog away I now thought about squeezing in the "monorail". However there is also an "elevated rail" and before I buy one system (which is very expensive) I am not sure what suits better. Both have 2000 capacity and both run overground so I do not see any differences. Can you help? A help would also be the link to the thread where this has been discussed already.

    Cheers,

The difference between monorail and Elevated rail is that the monorail is much faster and is more suited for long-distance traveling with few stops in between (like, say, maybe 3-5 stations across a large city tile), and so should be used to connect people to their jobs (like say, from suburbs to downtown). The Elevated Rail, on the other hand, is more suited for bus-like transport with more stations. So I suppose that it all depends on how far the line is supposed to run (or how many stops you want for it).

Thats exactly what you should do. You don't need to plan if you plan it becomes ordinary you want a whacky netowrk not something perfect.

In real life they do not plan.
