Ok last thing for tonight i promise, anyways I just figured i would let you guys know I do still do alot of 3d work, aka buildings and such.  I just dont do any batting but, i figured i would show you guys a recent project of mine ive been working on, its acctually a bit more complex than a normal bat because it has engineering plans and architectual plans associated with it, school stuff.  Anyways here is the picture, maybe i can throw it in bat for max and whip something out when its done.

    untitled1ka8.jpg

Not terribly impressive at the moment, but its slated out at 73 floors and ive got some very interesting plans for it.

joerg, you could use nature in your entire journal - not showing one sign of civilization - and I know I would enjoy it.

That said, your building is an awful nice tease - it looks great.

I also like your use of fog in your shots, as well. I have just begun using that as well, and the results can be breathtaking (but very taxing on an old system).

Don't feel bad about the crash problems you are having - I have been feeling the same pain. Had not had any for ages, and the most recent city I was working on crashed quite a bit.

    Keep up the great work.

Yeah its just funny because the system im running SC4 on is like rock solid usually, as of yesterday it was running at 83 days no downtime, its a pretty important workstation for me.

Alright this could possibly be the last update for awhile.  I have had the last 3 days off, but i work tonight till 1am, then tomorrow almost all day, and saturday as well.  Plus I work every day next week except thursday and friday, but im moving then so ill be insanely busy again.  If i find time to play i will keep you guys posted but if not hopefully this holds you over.

Tangaire will be at first a very rural sprawling region, I actually hope to fill in a good portion of the region with farms and small communities before there is a single skyscraper.  I want this region to develope very organically unlike my previous regions that were more or pre planned.

So over the next couple days, weeks, or however long it takes I will be developing a basic road network, power grid, and farming communities.  Beyond that their will be a few small things like a state park and a few other special spots.

So without further anticipation I give you parts of Coastal Highway 105, the McKnight Bay Bridge, and the developing agricultural areas that will one day turn into the West and South West Sections of Tangaire.

    Hey, Joerg...

...of the Legendary Bridge Height Mod, all right.  That was a good one, very timeless.

I saw this on the Realistic CJ thread where members post others pics.  It's right up there on the realism scale, very beautiful and savvy detailing.  You've mastered running roads through your terrain, too.

Your region is huge, wow, mine seemed big to me at 7x7.  It's very cool to think of the two peaks being 50 miles apart, tho.  Lotta Big Country, most of which you now may credibly leave un-citified if desired.  I'm right there with you on the forestation, it takes forever, but aren't the new trees and other terrain mods kick-a$$?  Have you checked out dedgren's 256 quad region at SC4Devotion?  He's brought in reinforcements for a collaborative effort, but you might be able to get ideas from looking at his work.

Good luck with the busy week--catch ya later.

Thanks Livin Sim, and everyone for that matter.  Ive seen the dedgrens region, it is pretty impressive, and kind of what i am aiming for.  With 144, large cities it will still be no small feat to fill them all in but im going to give it a try.

Anyways guys its been awhile since my last update, and im hoping this time i can bring even more realism to the table.  I am still just kind of building small communities and agricultural centers.

    Anyhow on to the pictures.

Im trying really hard to find a style for these small towns, but its getting difficult to give them character.  I suppose i need to get more in depth with alot of it.  Anyways tell me what you think guys, and hopefully i can keep this thread alive, but keep posting, I work darn near everyday so its nice to come home to fresh posts.  Thanks again, and a resounding blah to our recent simcity 5 news.

Anyways, keep up the good work !!!

SoNell- There will eventually be a larger city.  As mentioned above there are 144 tiles and right now im enjoying filling them in with small towns and such.  The plan is to fill as much as possible in with small towns, roads, farms, rivers, and rail roads.  Then once i am burnt out on that start naturally growing the big city of Tangaire.  This i fell will yield the most realistic approach to growing a city because a grid will already be in place, much like when real cities form.  So yeah if you are looking for gorgeous downtowns and massive skyscrapers, it will come but it might be awhile.

Anyways here is a quick region picture from just west (west is down for me on this map) of where the city center will eventually form.

Excellent start, the rural areas are really great! I really love the small town effect of your city journal too, it's quite nice. Loving the rivers and the coast as well. Keep it up! 44.gif

So just out of curiosity...... How does my region compare? Like i guess the reason i ask is becuase it seems like im only getting like 3-4 responses before it just falls off the map and then i have to update again. I mean im not playing just to get comments from you guys, but i remember my old journals got tons of commentary and questions and things while this thread seems very empty. I see journals with 100s and even thousands of posts and i havent quited figured out their formula. The reason i am worried is becuase i work 5-7 days a week and updating this thread doesnt always get done, much less do i have a ton of time to play. Its just weird that when i come back to this thread 3 days later i end up having to dig through pages and pages to find it.

So do you guys have any suggestions for me? I just feel like im either not creating something that is quality enough for people to post, or i am not engaging people enough. Should i stop posting scenery and small towns? Should i go back to telling the story?

I, to be honest, really like your CJ. It's inspiring. I like the region, but I really like the pics of the small cities. Maybe put it in your siggy, and go post all around. That might advertise it a bit. Hell, I'll even put it in my sig to help ya out.

    Hey, joerg,

No, this CJ leaves nothing to be desired in my opinion.  I personally like a mix of story and pics, and found your story quite interesting.  I may not be totally typical with regards to liking a story, but the stories with some action and cliffhangers seem to be pretty popular.  When I start mine in the fall, I plan to mix it up as much as I can.  Don't know if that is your style.

The CJ forum may have changed a bit.  It seems there are lots of CJ's getting started, and a fair amount that fall by the wayside due to the unrealized work of it all, and of course, RL.  This makes it a bit harder to get a start.  For awhile there, a few people were bumping CJ's a lot with spam-like posts, not necessarily with bad intent, but that seems to have improved now in the last few days after others mentioned it.

I'd say you have a quality product here that will gather interest as time goes on.  You've done a good job of making yourself visible.  So I think that and just keeping in touch in other journals will do the trick.  Someone who has gained as much respect in the community will be sure to have a great following in time.  I'll try and give you a bump with my response a day or two after updates when you fall to page 2.  Jacky tries to do that as well if she can.

    Bye for now.

Thanks guys, and looks like i may be to busy for the journal anyways, check out the Simtropolis 1000, thread in the SC5 forum i am darn near at 2 pages with it in just a couple hours. Crazy.

Again thanks so much and you guys make great suggestions I think i will try to get back to telling the story with the city. I had more screens for you guys but the game again crashed and I am not quite used to auto saving yet. Anyhow i will do my best to keep on top of things.

Hmm well still not much going on here, ohwell.  So I have so new pictures, but its like 230 in the morning and i work in like 7 hours so im going to just post and run.  Happy viewing!

    image000fl3.jpg

I might be the only person in the world that thinks this way, but i really dont like those seasonal trees grrr.  They stick out like a soar thumb.

    image001oq9.jpg

Dont worry its a controlled fire to make room for more farming.  Here in the small port town of Alexis Grove land is rather scarce and burning down forests in a controlled manner has been a common practice in the area for years.

    image002zl8.jpg

The region just keeps growing, but sooo much left to do.  Btw to give you an idea of the scale, the farms you see are on average a 20x20 grid, and you are seeing roughly 10 of the 144 large cities in this shot.  Hmm maybe i should stop describing the scale, its getting scary..... 6.gif
