Commercial Demand Problem

I have the radical ordinance mod and I used it's Commercial Office ordinance to increase the demand. I got some lovely skyscrapers and plazas, so I turned the ordinance off. Then  my demand for  CO (both wealths)  decreased  a lot. The buildings don't abandon though, because they have a lot of customers. Unfortunately it seems now that the only way to increase demand is to use that ordinance.

Is there any way to get a lot of demand naturally?

P.S. I tried lowering taxes to create demand, but it didn't work.

First: get your hands off from the radical ordinance and super demand mods. They have their specific aspects where they can be very handy but unless you haven't fully understood the game mechanincs I would not recommend you to use them - at all! 20.gif

So how to get a naturally demand for commerce? Easy said by letting your region develope.  Don't expect Skyscrapers in a smalltown - they don't belong there. Every neighbour connection raises the demand cap - the first connections of its type more than the latter.

Use railways - they do increase industry demand as well as commercial demand and cost way less than highways. Airports do increase commercial demand, too, yet it is yours to decide if you really want to have an airport in almost every of your cities ...

A lot of rewards and landmarks have a positive influence on commercial demand, too so built especially the rewards. Plazas do help, too.

Built up a decent educational systems - you need educted sims for the C$$ and C$$$ jobs yet don't forget to keep some areas for the poor - at least someone hs to clean the whitecollar's toiletts ... 38.gif

Be very carefully when it comes to plop commercials with jobs - unfortunately there are quite some nice designed BATs with badly modded lots available that may completely wreck down your economic system. It is better to let them grow. For this take a lot of care in how you organize your traffic system - avenues that work as main arterias in big cities are the best place to get those big skysscrapers. 9.gif

And as always: don't rush! Take the time you need, enjoy the game, and if the big ones don't come in the first moment - begin with the small commercials and go on with the medium ones.

Never forget: Rome wasn't built ina day, too ...

I pretty much did all those things. I have airports, subway, GLR, and a few avenues in the downtown area. My pop. is almost 200,000 in this city, and almost 300,000 in the region. I do have a bunch of plopped buildings, which provide 10,000+ jobs. Im afraid to destroy them, because I could start getting No Job zots.

I agree with Nardo69, radical mods are not my preference either.  The only game mod I really use is the industry Quadrupler, and only because it is realistic.  If you are not getting high CO demand then the time is not right.  Spend time playing other cities and building up the region.

Before you know it, everyone will be wanting office jobs and you will be hard pressed to zone high dens commercial fast enough!.

Nardo69's advice is very good. To add to what he said,

This may not be the most pleasant and convenient advice of them all, but start a new town with no demand ordinances. Get the feel of the game; the quirks, the RCI behavior, what happens when your city reaches this population, things like that (that's considering you're fairly new to the game). The old fashioned way of doing things may be hard and rough at first, but the rewards of a commercial skyscraper growing in that scenario is well worth it.

I got rid of my plopped commercial buildings. My CO$$ demand skyrocketed, and I got a few reasonable buildings out of it. I also destroyed some CO$$$ buildings I had, and lowered their taxes. In the end I got some natural skyscrapers out of it, at the expense of my people. Still, whats a few thousand jobless sims between mayors? Ive also created some nearby towns to act as lovely suburbs and cheap industries, to ease pressure on the biggest region city.

hi, i have this problem too. it's jus taht the thing is, its more of a technical problem. da thing is that, prolly after downloading some program. This problem started to happen in mid april. It's probably happened when I downloaded something taht dated in april. The problem is, when I get into the game, it always has this problem where there is high demand in everything except fro commercial offices. all three categories!!!!!! This is with the radical and super demand ordinance. As well, I have this thing whre when I put in some certain pattern in the ordinance chart, da all high super demand everything goes back up for only small towns. But when I do the same thing in big cities, like my 100,000 pop. and over cities, it doesnt work.

Yes, you can. It is not technical at all. Look for the "new topic" button in the blue bars just below the STEX DVD ad at the very top of the page.

Why make a new topic? If your problems have nothing to do with the problem the first poster stated in this thread, it should be in a new thread so that people who have the same problem as you will have an easier time finding the answer when they do a search for that problem and it's solution.

Further posting in THIS thread only confuses things, specifically how to resolve the problem that Citymaster13 asked about.

Are you sure that in you're cities you've added airports, cause that's what will happen if you don't place airports in super demand cities.
