    hey people,

I recently have gotten simcity 4 and I have a few questions. I have only been playing for a few days and I'm still trying to figure some things out:

1: I was wondering if there is any place where I can downloaded cities/regions? I found the STEX collection here but those are mods/buildings or something?

2: I downloaded the maxisland region from some site but when I go in the game I can't find it when I try to load this region, anyone know why you can't load some regions? I have the rush hour expansion.

3: when I build residentals it sometimes still has a car in the middle of it, even though there are roads around it. (hard to explain hopefully the picture will be helpfull 4.gif)

    Thanks in advance,

Fixed oversize image.  Limit is 800 x 600.  Oversize images may be simply removed at the discretion of the staff.  Please obey the rules.  NOB.

hi Hans87 and welcome to ST.

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can, but if I have misunderstood any of them, just let me know.

1: I was wondering if there is any place where I can downloaded cities/regions? I found the STEX collection here but those are mods/buildings or something?

Downloading maps is possible from the STEX..in fact you'll find hundreds. You cannot, however, download cities. Cities may depend on custom content which varies from one player to another and therefore quickly becomes impractical.

2: I downloaded the maxisland region from some site but when I go in the game I can't find it when I try to load this region, anyone know why you can't load some regions? I have the rush hour expansion.

I'm not familiar with the region you are looking to load, but if you choose to load one of the excellent region maps off the STEX, you'll find instructions with most of them on how to get it into the game.

3: when I build residentals it sometimes still has a car in the middle of it, even though there are roads around it. (hard to explain hopefully the picture will be helpfull

If you take a look at your picture, you'll notice small arrows on the green zoning you have done. The arrows point in the direction that the zoned area is "expecting" to face the road. Quite simply, you've zoned lots that are not connecting to the road in the direction they should be.

    1) Cities are large files and the possiblility of mod/plugin problems makes trading them very unpractical and almost never happens. Regional maps on the other hand, if you go to the STEX and look to the left, you will see a drop down menu that acts as a filter list and you can select maps from there. Go to the omnibus and there are tutorials for installing them and creating config.bmp files that go with it.

    2) You have to import the map first and use the accompanying config.bmp. As I said, there are tutorials on the Ominbus that will tell you how.

    3) Look at the zone. Do you see those little arrows facing each other? Those arrows are the road front edge of the zone and need to face the road. SC4 is different from the other SC's in that each zone needs it's own road access. Much more realistic. FYI, holding down Ctrl while zoning consolitates the zone you're placing into one zone. Shift zones without roads, and Alt picks an alternative direction for the zone to face while zoning.

Here's a FAQ for ya that might help you out too.

    Thanks Rochefort and Baertooth.

I'm going to look a bit more in the STEX and try to find some new stuff. The game differs quite abit from Simcity 3000.

Also thanks for the FAQ, it's really helpfull!
