I have only been able to run on Vista Ultimate, where it loaded and ran with no problems.  If it installs, then set it to hardware rendering mode using only one processor (affinity setting) and make sure your graphics options are set to application selected.

I did hear a rumble about DirectX 10, but it seemed OK to me.  Something tells me that the processor dispatch routine is trying to multiprogram this.  If you get the program loaded, set the exe to run under XP compatibility.

Moving to the Tech thread, bye the way.

Maybe I don't understand the term "Core2Duo" but I believe this acts as a dual processor.  If that is the case, start the program, and while it is coming up, when the screen is black, press CTL+ALT+DEL to call the task manager.  In the task manager, find the Simcity4.exe process, right click on it and set the affinity to one of the two processors.  M$ has a utility to do this but I don't have a link to it.

    N O Body

i have come across another problem, after a few minutes playing sc4 deluxe on compatible mode on vista home premium. the game started to get dark.

i dont know how to do anything with the processers, and i hvent seen anything that says applications selected.

how do i set the exe to run windows xp, unless you mean where it says what os, was it run before.

i wish i would have known about these problem before  i bought vista. the sales rep at hp, told tht you can play anything you want to with vista using the compatiblity mode.

i was originally after another xp, but i got talked out of it

    thank you

    mary

jazzmine:  I have not needed to use the compatibility feature to run SC4.  It should not make a difference what level of Vista you have, basic to ultimate.  It's not that complicated of game.  I suggest reinstalling and not using compatibility mode, it, in itself can cause problems.

I guess I agree, you don't understand Core2Duo, it's more like a glorified hyper thread, than the AMD processor that has been mentioned on these threads.  It is a dual processor, only in that it has two processing cores.

Your instructions only yielded the options to set priorities, end task, etc.

Anyway, I have no issues running SC4 with the C2D, or Vista.  And I can't say that it does any better/poorer than the Pentium 4, as I have no way to test it.

Well, that is certainly a cheat.  All it seems to give you is a two step pipeline, and for this they charge an exorbitant amount of money.  I think I'll stick with the AMD architecture.  Thanks for the quick lesson.  I really don't want to research all the junk these guys are making these days.  I am spoiled from using CDC 6600-type main frames, and you would think the micro guys wouldn't keep trying to invent the wheel, eh?
