Add-ons/Mods

Hey guys, I'm reinstalling SimCity tonight because after a bajillion years of playing the game and downloading new mods, the game started running way to slow to play. Hopefully there aren't a bunch of other posts like this....I just really didn't know what to try and search for.

I'm looking for everyone's opinion on what mods/add-ons are a neccesity for you to play (I know they may not be absolutely needed for me). Hopefully this gives me a good restart with new mods maybe I haven't used. If possible I'd like to know a few good modders who have a whole bunch of self made mods so I don't have to bother downloading fifty different prop packs.

Thanks for your help,

Chris

PS - I like unique growable buildings (can't stand seeing six of the same building right next to each other, e.g. the dreaded "Flea Market" or "Drive-In Theater"

woot! you guys rock!

But downloading the prop packs makes everything seem twice as better D:

Anywho... Your neccessities should include:

-Lastest version of the NAM

-Industry multiplier (always a plus)

-Some sort of less abandonment mod

-Stage limits mod (not sure if that's the name, but allows commercial skyscrapers before residential)

There are probably more but those are off the top of my head.

Yeah, prop packs aren't too bad...they just help everything move along. But anyways, here're my recommendations:

Mods

-Everything Nightshiver00 said (especially the NAM)

-Some sort of terrain mod (I recommend Columbus terrain mod)

-Some sort of water mod

-Some sort of rock mod (to change the cliffs)

-Opera House fix

Lots/Add-ons (search terms)

-NDEX

-simgoober

-pegasus

-ILL tonkso

-Goldiva

-pda

-Marrast

If you ever did want to get all the dependencies and prop packs and such, I'd suggest visiting the SC4 Devotion LEX, because they're all in one spot there. There's also some other awesome things over there, like the DAT Packer and all of Jeronij's stuff. But that's up to you. Hope I've helped a little.

I forgot to add, you might want to download a slope mod, so that your roads don't ascend at awkward angles.

Thanks for the replies...if I download the NAM stuff, can I just download the newest one and my game will be updated? Or do I have to download them separately. Can you recommend a water mod? The only one I've ever downloaded just made my water turn really dark blue and plain. Finally, what's the Opera House mod?

Yeah, all you have to do is download the latest NAM, and you're set. Just make sure to read the Read-Me and look at all that it comes with before you install it, because it comes with a lot of features, and you may not want everything.  As for water mods, I would recommend the Brigantine Water Mod by pegasus. That one's the most realistic in my opinion, but really, any water mod by pegasus is highly recommended 29.gif.

The Opera House Fix changes the Opera House so that it has a funding slider. The reason for this is to fix a bug that comes along with the Opera House because the funding for it isn't modifiable.  Once a city grows too large, it can hinder its growth. That mod changes this problem. The thing about this fix is that it isn't compatible with the Functional Landmark mod (which adds jobs to all Maxis Landmarks). So it's either/or. I chose the Opera House fix because I don't really use Landmarks that much, but I think more people choose the Functional Landmark mod. It's really up to you if you want one or the other (or neither).

The Brig. water mod is certainly the best in my opinion, but opinion is all that it is.

And everyone else pretty much summed up the mods I'd recommend. Of course... *cough* there are a couple of good Simoleon mods as well. Don't shoot me! I like to plop a lot of buildings as I build, and can't afford that on the typical mayor's salary!! :-P

    There's always the RHW as well . . . 2.gif (shameless self-plug, I know . . .)

New version just came out--see my sig.

I'd concur with the other suggestions people have here as well.  Though I actually don't cheat. 3.gif

I'd say that other than what people have said so far, you might consider the road top transit lots. they are very useful. I also haven't seen anyone mention the hole digging and ground raising lots.
