Okay... after game issues, computer issues, real life issues, and the somewhat excuseable "sandboxing", I am going to take a shot at yet another City/Regional journal.

I present to you the teaser/introduction of:

bahiasonrisajw1.jpg

The English translation simply means "Bay of Smiles".  Since the Spanish version sounded far from cheesy, I figured I would go with that...  Either way, the Bahia de las Sonrisas is a coastal region with gorgeous waterways, inviting park areas, and the ever so entertaining Lake Waccamaw resort area for those of you who love to spend your life savings on the various casinos and shows!  This area is always guaranteed to put a smile on many faces, young and old!

*CREDITS*

The map itself is a modified version of moganite's Coatzacoalcos found here on the Stex.  The images used in my city sign were found on the Photo Stock Exchange, by simply doing a search on "smile".

Now while I have so many developmental ideas already in place somewhere in my brain, I certainly need to take pictures of the work I've done so far.  With that said, to be continued...

Well, as mentioned, I did need to take some pictures first!  2.gif

I haven't done anything totally fancy yet, but some of the development I've done so far.

Many shouts to many of the CJers out there, particulary SeeMurray2 and the wonderful Aqua Vista- I've been inspired greatly by your commercial areas!

But without further ado, the preliminary regional shot:
    bahiadesonrie1176175802th8.jpg

I've practically mapped out my ideal major areas so far, and in this CJ, I'll be working the details in between.

In the nice land of suburbia that makes up the southwestern side of Port Paola:
    portpaolanov13051176062rm4.jpg
The old downtown section of SW Port Paola.  A mixture of original architecture with new office developments.

    portpaola2il1.jpg
The wonderful, tranquil neighborhood of Jodibrook.  Creek of course, is man-made.  I'm still trying to figure out why in the heck I'm getting those wonderful bright boo-boos as trees.

    portpaolajul21011176049hd7.jpg
And of course, the cookie-cutter land of generica we call our commerical districts.  I certainly enjoy them more in-game than I do in real life.... signs of addiction?

i'm currently working on a gorgeous park/canal section between the suburbs and what will be my downtown area (that long bar that juts out in the center of the city).  Pictures, more than likely tomorrow.

I agree with you Tashawho, those big-box stores look great in the game but in real life they are disgusting. Very convenient though. Nice start, Im looking forward to more pics.

And now it's time for my first Bahia de las Sonrisas update!
*tears up notebook paper and throws it like confetti*

Now this particular update is going to be a little different from the norm... mainly because in my indecisiveness and dislike for small things like... trees, I clicked the "demolish" button and decided to start from scratch.  Bless jeronij and his Meadowland collection (found on the the SC4 Devotion exchange); I don't know how I had ever missed it from the start, but I am so happy to find a good set of trees that look fantastic, and the spread isn't so monotonous!

Thanks for the comments so far, guys!  PantherSimCity4, I wish I didn't have to disappoint you, because you seemed so enthusiastic.  La Bahia de las Sonrisas isn't intentionally a "Latin America"-based CJ.- just happened that the Spanish translation of "Bay of Smiles" had a much better ring to it.  Come to think of it, after 3 years of Spanish... like... 10 years ago... I found that many English words sound much better in their Spanish translations!

But I digress... on with the show!

    overview.jpg

With more depth and realism.  Hoorah... or something...

This was my first time trying out the GLR system in any city I've created... mainly because I couldn't ever come up with an ideal layout... as you can see here, it goes in one straight line, from end to end.  I figured that since this particular suburban area (which I have renamed Carrington, after my boyfriends middle name) would have an older downtown, that the rails would be a salute to the town in its older days of cable cars.  Surprisingly enough, it's used more than I had expected:
    downtown.jpg

And in their salute, the H.Carrington Park, dedicated to... well, my sweetheart; I shan't give him credit for being the city's founder!
    city_park.jpg

The revamped commercial sector.  Go fast food!  And of course, my all time favorite Zaxby's is in there!
    Paola_comm.jpg

On the other side of the highway lies the golden Child of Port Paola, Tobias State University, home of the Raging Archangels!
(The Blue Bay Bowl sponsored by Burger King and Starbucks)
    Tobias%20State%20University.jpg

Across the river lies the Industrial sector for Port Paola... Primarily manufacturing.  And if anyone knows where I can find the missing texture for my Pepsi and Canada Dry Bottling companies to get rid of their blue bottoms, let me know; the link in the readme file sent me to the land of 404.
    industry.jpg

And of course, my home is away from it all, on its own nice little cove.  I think I'll add the Playboy Mansion in there somewhere.  I'm sure the boyfriend will enjoy that:
    mayor_pad.jpg
The water in that picture looks so real it's scary!

And that is the newest update to the Bay.  Come back next time!  I doubt I'll be doing any obliterating in the days to come!

    Thanks once again, everyone!

Crazyyaya, I did explain that this is not a Latin American CJ... just the name itself has Latin influence, and it just sounded cooler than the American Translation! :-)

In the midst of constant crashes and keeping up with a little real life, I probably won't have a full update until this weekend...

But however, I did want to show you a teaser of another city in the region that I'm having a great deal of fun with:

    lakewaccamawft0.jpg

I'll certainly be taking a lot of night time shots once I get a population going! And of course, the development of the metro area of Port Paola will be on its way as well. Stay tuned!

    Thanks, homeandaway!

And I just realized that my lit palm trees, and my seawalls aren't showing up in that picture... it looks as if they don't even exist there!

*scratches head* Has anyone else encountered that?

Aaaaaand of course... I have lost my password to my original account!

I did a clean up of files, and little did I know that my password would be yanked. Tragically, I never updated my email on here, and so my password is now lost in space...

Well until I figure out how to get my password back, you will know me as ms_arbez. :-)

As far as the update for this past weekend... well, once again real life called again, so I haven't had a chance to do anymore developing... but hopefully I shall get something back to you guys this week.

*****atoo (beautiful bird... is it yours?), Yes, in the beginning, before I started from scratch with a new terrain and trees, that's where those "brown boxes" had appeared. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the tree mod, and now it's functional, as you can see in the second set. I'm still missing a few tree props somewhere (how, I don't know), but I've just avoided using those sets until I get the problem fixed. Brown boxes are such a pain, and PEG's mod certainly helps!
