Unemployed Sims

Whenever I start creating a new residential zone, all the sims in it are unemployed. I created a subway to the industry (which isn't that far away to begin with), and even bus stops. Now I even zoned medium-density industrial much closer to the medium density residential, and they still sit there with the suitcase beacon. 15.gif

Are the wealth levels of your sims matched with the commercial and industrial wealth levels?  For example, if all the sims that are moving in are wealthy, but the only industrial jobs that are available are dirty, they will not be able to find any wealthy job.  Make sure the jobs being offered to the sims match their wealth level.

Well... I'm real *****ish to Sim City (in general), but are you saying to match medium density with medium density, if so then yes. Otherwise I have no idea how to check 15.gif. Sorry for my *****ish questions 3.gif

Don't feel embarrassed by newcomer questions.  We all had to start at one time or another.

Try sticking in some single occupancy commercial mixed in with your residential.  A few corner stores should provide jobs locally.

No worries.  4.gif No question is stupid or silly.  I'm still learning things about simcity 4, and I've been playing it for 4 years now.  Anyway, I'm not talking about the density level (even though that may factor into it).  If you query a buidling, there is a field called "Wealth Level".  It is marked by dollar signs, $ - for poor wealth, $$ - for middle wealth, $$$ - for High wealth.  These are the levels that need to be matched between your residential and commercial/industrial.

For example, lets say you have 1 middle wealth commercial building.  Lets say it  provides 10 jobs.  Now the jobs it provides will be 1 - high wealth ($$$),  7 - middle wealth ($$), and 2 - low wealth ($).  Now lets say you have 10 residents in your city looking for jobs.  Lets say the residents are  2 - high wealth ($$$) and 8 - middle wealth ($$).  In this scenario, you will have 1 high wealth and 1 middle wealth sim not able to find a job.   Therefore the unemployment zot will appear.  Hopefully I haven't muddied the waters too much.  Maybe somebody else can give a better explaination or example.

Yes, prophet42 is correct: don't confuse density with wealth. Wealth is dictated by the amount of $$$'s (simoleans) after the description of the type of building. The type of zone is either low density, medium density, or high density. If you haven't visited the Omnibus, do so now. The best starter article is Making Money the Easy Way by Soldyne. Do not skim this tutorial. Read it, and practice it's techniques in a starter region. You can learn a lot from it!
