Errors rendering large cities after creating a new custom region

Hi, I've had this problem with Sim City 4 for as long as I can remember, but I've never bothered to post until now.

The problem occurs when creating a custom region that contains large-sized cities.  The import seems to go fine, but once the region is rendered it looks like the screenshot below, with funky edges along the bottom of large cities only.  As though the terrain is improperly sized to the rectangle.

This happens to me on Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition with all updates, Pentium Core Duo 2Ghz; 4GB RAM;  NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT graphics card; Windows XP with all updates.

I have tried rebooting to ensure no other processes are eating CPU cycles.  This happens for all large cities, no exceptions.

    Any ideas?

    • this is the high resolution bug for large cities (1600x1200 or more...not 100% sure if it goes higher)...was never addressed by Maxis at all, have to live with it as I doubt they will fix now.

only thing you can do is drop the resolution of the region....might have to open the city and save for the effects to disappear or don't render regions at high resolution.

Thanks, very much - I just discovered this myself after re-reading this vague description in the forum guide.  I didn't think it applied at first:

    4. I run SimCity 4 on a 1600x1200 resolution, and I get background edge graphics in strips over the top. Is there a solution?

N_O_Body: If this is a rendered map, you should re-render it in 800 x 600.  You have encountered a known problem, and running at resolutions higher than 1024 x 768 seems to be the cause.

You could drop your resolution to something reasonable for the game, then you have to enter and resave each and every city to create new thumbnails for the region layout.
