Very different layout. Some parts did look familiar to me though. Pic 3 looked kinda like Vancouver, and pic 4 & 5 looked like Calgary

I live in Istanbul, too but I don't know ...

There are some REALLY great areas here (I just live opposite to the Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace and looking there across the Marmara Sea IS gorgeous) but I know these modern areas, too ...

Where I live and work a lot of areas look like what someones does when he first time plays SC4:

- all high density zoned

- except busses no MT (there is one metro line, one tramway line and one subway line in Istanbul - all on the European side, construction of Metro (network) began last year)

- a lot of non W2W houses at grey streets

but maybe other 14-20 million inhabitant (noone knows exactly) megapolis look the same ...

Hmm.. I don't see why it's such a huge ideal for European cities to mimic the American way.

Just take a look at the seccond pic. How is that in any way relatable to the citys history? It looks like any random American suburb, just with oversized buildings.

It's clear that the developers have not given as much as thought into making a living community.

So yeah, it looks pretty "cool" from afar, but up close, it looks extremely dull.

I agree with Nardo, it doesn't look like its been planned very well - more like something made by a ***** at SC4. Everything is too high dense, but very little W2W and like anything is being built anywhere.

I've been to Istanbul once and I like it very much. Very vibrant city. I was there only for a week though and I visited only the old part of it. But it's certainly one of the cities where I would like to go back again!

Count me in this camp, too.  They look good from a distance, but up close it's just an office park.  That could just as easily be Dallas as Istanbul.  Charmless glass boxes in the middle of parking lagoons.

And that glass pyramid looks like that giant hotel in Pyongyang that they never finished.

Yea, why must a beautiful city like istanbul ruin itself with a "Tower in a park" district....

Skyscrapers are meant to interact with the city, not be suburban office parks.

Very good looking city. I prefer the "American way" to the old European cities, whose charm, by the way, comes not from their ridiculous street layouts or W2W buildings, but from centuries of history. Istanbul looks like it's opting for modernization. But the Diamond of Istanbul does look ugly. It clashes horribly with the other skyscrapers.
