astronaut in trouble...

Ya beat me to it, Jay! I always post this kinda bizarre stuff and I was getting ready to when I saw you had it here. Good post!

This is so freaking weird. When I was a kid, the astronauts were heroes! They were as respected as the president. The worst was Grissom who was seen in a few bars...that was considered "on the edge" behaviour.

This woman is strange. What next...we read about an astronaut sky-jacking a spacecraft? What kind of psychological testing do they put them through these days? Victim of the budget cuts, maybe? Long ago someone said we should send all the psychopaths out into space. At the time, I don't think this is what he had in mind.

An astronaut drove 900 miles and donned a disguise to confront a woman she believed was her rival for the affections of a space shuttle pilot, police said. She was arrested Monday and charged with attempted kidnapping and other counts.quote>

Regular old crazy then.

One Simple Solution, Privatize Space Travel, Abolish NASA.

A Private Space Travel Firm would never let crap like this happen,a d those astronauts would be Fired.

Remember These are americias Best and Brightest.

You expect to hear a story like this about some

Ex cheerleader with a 10th grade education, rather then someone with a

Masters Degree in aeronautical engineering, and the motivation required to become

an astronaught.

Well, EasyBakes, it just goes to show it's not the education but what's inside.

Space is for all of us, not the wealthy. Horrible idea, IMO.

Now as for this lady, it's amazing how these love triangles can control people as bright and talented as astronauts... sheesh.

astronauts are supposed to be remembered as pioneers, role models to the younger generation.but it doesn't seem to be that way anymore. what a shame.

I agree totally. Privatizing the space program would be the end of it because the main motivation would become profit, not discovery. While profit is a great motivator, with profit, methods and ethics become questionable, to say the least.

Smart people can go absolutely crazy as well. This astronaut was smart AND a woman. The odds were against her frankly.

You think she'll still have a cushy job waiting for here at NASA if she gets convicted? Your argument makes no sense.

Yes, But what discovery has NASA Made since 1969? Yes, we introduced the Space Shuttle(wich is outdated), Sent some rovers to Mars to collect dirt and destroyed mir, But have we landed people anywhere since Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin? No. Thats not progress, that is stagnation.

Government is Inept, Period. If we trust NASA with our future in space, we will all be trapped on this planet until Nuclear Bombs drop from the sky like rain, or the planet becomes too warm to be hospitable, whichever comes first.

Distrusting all government is all well and good, but private industry is hardly going to take up the slack.

Ah yes, that fabled 1969; when man finally discovered the moon.

Anyway, they sent out oodles of probes, put up two space stations and launched Hubble. All sorts of cool stuff. The only thing they didn't do, however, was "destroy mir".

What particular flavor of swivel eyed lunacy have you been eating?

Actually, the private industry is becoming more powerful than NASA. In fact, for the moon base, NASA is having to depend on private businesses like Catepillar (sp?) to dig for water on the moon. Even SpaceShipOne made history and that was made by the private industry. NASA is surprisingly becoming more dependent upon the American private industry. So far, I haven't seen the same for ESA.

But annnyway, back to the real topic, it sounds like this astronaut is in deep trouble. Personally, I don't think this will effect NASA because, chances are, we will forget this story in a few weeks from now.

I think the story finally answers for once and for all the burning question I the we've all had for a long time: "What do astronauts do if they have to go at the last moment?" 9.gif
