Alright. Well, I've been a casual SC player for a while, and a ST lurker now and then. But I had given it up for a while and only recently came back when I finally got around to getting Rush Hour.

I've started to learn my way around here, downloaded the NAM, and went crazy with some STEX BATs. But I have a few questions...

First of all, I am a victim of the game crashes. I have to tread very lightly in the game. Usually scrolling in/out is a harrowing experience.. Half the time it crashes on me. After reading the thread in the Omnibus, I think I have either a video card or page file issue. I haven't looked into it, but I will soon.

OK, I'm also having a bit of trouble with tunneling. I have the digging tiles downloaded (Which are hard enough to use in themselves 6.gif) and I use them, in this case, on both sides of an avenue with the intent to tunnel under it. But when I drag a road from one ditch to another, it goes over, not under.

There was also a case in the game where I bulldozed an intersection and replaced it with a roundabout. (Streets meeting a one-way circle) But apparently the Sims could not navigate through it, and all of the houses in that neighborhood got the no-road sign and abandoned ship. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

OK, one last thing. Some of the building I've downloaded from the STEX will, after a month or so in the game, so completely black. They're fine at first, no brown boxes or anything, but then they just turn into a black hole.

Alright, if anyone has gotten this far I salute you. Is there anything else essential that I ST/SC $%&^! should know?

Hi Lifetime, I can't help you with crashes, look in the 'bugs & tech' section. I don't know much about tunnels either, sorry. About the roundabout, you have to make sure you draw it the right way for the side you're drivers drive on. Clockwise for right hand drive, counterclockwise for left hand drive (I think?) I kept making that same mistake - how embarrassing! The blackness of the buildings mean they've been abandoned. Do you have the services they need (power and water for higher wealth) and do you have enough jobs? Welcome to ST and good luck!

Thanks for the welcome Fred_Ginger! (Is Fred OK?) It's always hardest getting a footing in a place, the rest is comparatively easy. 4.gif

OK... Well roundabouts seem to be doing fine now. So that's good. As to the BATed stuff... Well, the objects in question aren't buildings though... Rather it was a French Connection set of parks (They're beautiful, I would recommend them). First they show up and then disappear into a black nothingness. It isn't the darkness of an abandoned building, but the absolute absence of color... Which makes me think it might be a video card issue.

And a video card would also explain the crashing. That's still happening, more frequent than ever. I think I need to look into the paging, but I still have no clue what paging is and how it works. And stop running some background stuff. This would be much easier if I were a computer guy... 3.gif

Still fighting for tunnels too... It's strange, they don't seem to want to build...

At ease, Lifetime. No burden. Being a computer virtuoso isn't everything. I'm undoubtedly not one, and I get along here fine. After all, that's why we have SimTropolis. - So that we can interrogate those with more expertise than us. 2.gif

Did you ever figure out the tunnel?  I have exactly the same problem, and I am starting to search the forums for an answer.  I have the digging tiles, but I can't get a road to tunnel- it goes over.  A railway will tunnel, though.  I am using the 15m deep ones- though I tried the monorail ones and it didn't work either.

edit:  By reloading NAM and not allowing ANT, it seemed to work.  I don't think it will allow you to dig a hole if it would put you into the water table, though.

I also posted this to https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=358&threadid=86012&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=3#last

    Sorry for spamming. 15.gif
