One big city no traffic

I have a commerical city with about 15,000 jobs and 7,000 residents, who live on an Island. I have ferry's for communters and my other city on the other shore also has ferries for commuters. The city has jobs, but no traffic, no commuters, but yet everyone still shows up a work. I just don't know how they get there??? It is like they arrive at the ferry wharf and then a couple walk to work and the rest disappear. Am I on some crack or Cristal Meth???? Or is this a bug I didn't know about. checked the Omni Bus first and I do have perfect pathfinder running.

What do you mean by traffic? No cars showing up? Check your settings, some downloads change the quality of cars to none. Or, if you mean that the route querry tool brings up '(none)', because in that case, you might have to wait for it to refresh.

are you using any RES plopable buildings  ? they will create demand but have no customers

if not...are you using the demand of surrounding cities to prop up the comercial section....sometime if this happens...you need to go and play the surrounding cities for 2-5 years to update comute times of the sims...til then the computer is just guessing...it knows there is the demand for COM...but the comutes haven't been updated

I have a city with 400K CS$ jobs in it...haven't gone back and played the surrounding cities yet..so there really no traffic in the city...1 good thing though comutes times are at 3 min currently

I tried to attached some pictures without sucess but and will check the graphs again, but my other cities that use ferries are operating normally with the usually traffic problems of a growing city. If all else fails I will just blow the city up and start again. Maybe a blessing in disguse as I already have a few new idea for the city. thanks

With routes and traffic i find that as long as there arn't any NJZ then you are probably ok.  I've had some pretty bizarre anomolies with the traffic in my sity (like when it disappeared for 3 years?  I don't get it) but they always work themselves out.  If there isn't sweeping unemployment, don't fret.

Also if you are using the "traffic data view" and all the roads show green that simply means they are below the maximum capacity.  switch over to the volume view because with only 7,000 residents it's unlikely that the roads will max out.

Yes, I had it to show all traffic etc to high, but the problem was I didn't have any commuters, none, you'd click on the building and it would show no commuters, but then show the buildings info and it would show a building full of happy sims working at their jobs. oh this was the only city in the region with this problem, but I bet it was a bit of bug or glix or something. regardless I blew the city up this afternoon and will rebuilding tonight. If I get anything other then normal results I repost what has happend. thanks

Ah, I think I see the problem.

The commuters query tells you how many people are working there.

When you use the regular query tool, and it says "28/30 jobs" that (and this surprised me when I found out) does NOT mean that there are 28 people working there. It means that "If desirability were 100%, then a maximum of 30 people would be able to work here, but at the current desirability, the maximum number of workers is 28, unless the deisrability goes back up." So "30/30 jobs" just means that the desireability is near the top, it doesn't tell you whether anyone is actually working there or not. (I wish they had made this clearer in the interface.

So it sounds like your commercial zone has high desirability (and hence the growables are appearing) but none of your sims are bothering to actually go there to work.
