Welcome to our conversation.

There are several bugs, but there don't appear to be any with Save.  You can try a manual save from the game by pressing CTRL+s.

To really discuss your problem, we need a list of your configuration and which version of the game you are playing.  Have you installed the appropriate update from the Simcity.com site?

This game does not work well at all with out the home site fixes.

Hi. I've had this problem many times before, and it's not a bug, but your computer is merely freezing up. The Simcity saves are highly complex and require a good amount of system resouces to write the file to your hard drive, so free up resources prior to saving.

* Always pause the simulation

* Close all data windows and toolbars

* Close any seperate programs, such as your internet browser.

* Before you even start Sim City, deactivate any Anti-Virus "watch" programs, such as Norton             Autoprotect. They constantly use resources simcity should be using.

If the regular save still bugs out on you, there's one last thing you can try: use a quicksave. Its just like a regular save but the region view of your city isn't updated. To use it, just press Ctrl+Alt+S. If even this doesen't work, call up EA and complain like you never complaied before, because you could have a corrupted copy of Sim City 4

psh, why you actually use norton would be beyond me but anyway, shouldn't your AV and Browser be closed in the first place? yes logical thinking at work here. maybe you should try a save without updating the tile image...i think thats what N_O_Body said, not sure.

ummmmm . . . I have never deactivated my Norton AV.  I just thought everything was taking soooooo long because I'm running on a 533 MHz pc!!!  I HAVE found that the bigger my cities get, the longer everything takes to happen, so I know most of my problems are processor & RAM related.  And I always pause SC and close all open menus, etc. before I save.  Not sure how much that helps, but I'd rather not take the chance of it messing something up.  I'm about to get a new pc, so I'll see first hand how much speed I pick up with a road rocket processor and humongous amounts of RAM!!

    Thanks for your reply

    Citymaster13 you're probably right. I only have an old Athlon Thunderbird 900 with 512Mo SDRam and a NvidiaGeforceFx 5200 Graphic card.

    You are maybe a little short of memory.  I have 1GB, but my GEForce4 card take 128MB of the top of that.  I do not, repeat do not, shut down any programs when I am going to run SC4.  I don't have any other applications running, though.

    Another thought:  Defragment your disks!  I use diskkeeper and it happens for me automatically, but SC4 saves usually create a lot of extents (file fragments), so if you disk is badly fragmented already then ...

    900mhz may seem like a lot, but it's not. I have a Intel Celeron D @ 2.93ghz and even that isn't enough at times. Sim City is truly limitless. I assuming that your computer has a socket A motherboard so you should be able to get a decent cpu upgrade. Socket A is considered obsolete but many of it's best AMD processors are still great, and probably very cheap.
