Welcome to NHL Trivia Season 3: “He shoots He scores”

With a huge success last season it came down to the wire where canuck3360 won the Stanley Cup in 7 exhilarating games. The runner up SensMan performed outstanding but came up a little short. I would imagine he will be ready to compete once again for the upcoming season and playoffs.

Likewise as before I will need a list of players who would like to participate. The max number is 20 while the minimum is 6. So first come first serve. Like last season this game will require a lot of participation and active players. If we achieve this then the game will be a huge success. This is what my goal is and to have fun while doing it.

Of course there is some stuff that will be new. During mid season (after game 15) we will break for an All Star Game. The Eastern Conference will take on the Western Conference. How it will work will stay a surprise. Another thing is that there will be a new trophy given to the player who demonstrates gentlemanly conduct. This will be awarded who performs courtesy during the season only by me. There will be more surprises during this season.

Of course there is rules. With beebs now an official moderator for the forum games section so we have to respect him. However with this in mind there will be some changes brought to me by several players. There will be no double posting. Thus you must wait until at least 2 people after you post. During the season it will be until everyone replies in your conference. In the playoffs this will usually be me and whoever you are playing against. The only exception is when someone answers correctly in the regular season I will then post. In the playoffs there will be no exceptions, as I want both players to answer first. Another rule is that no hints will be given until each or both players want one. As always the editing post rule will be in effect. If anyone violates these rules you will be excluded from the next game without warning.

I've recieved word that as long as our posts aren't spam, we're ok to bend the 2 post rule. I only ask that you guys try not to overuse this privledge, and keep it within reason. If you want to play it safe, there's always the NHL News thread in the Off Topic forum where you can carry on your discussion/debate about the NHL. Until next time...

There will be a 30 game schedule for each conference (player) with the same stats breakdown as last season. Questions will be of anything NHL related. Ties will occur when each player forfeits the question in your conference. Though there is a risk that you take with this. You could walk away with a point if everyone decides to forfeit it or with none if someone answers right. Also if you decide to forfeit a question you wont be able to withdraw your decision to do so.

I also will be posting random times for each game, as there will not be a fixed schedule. This will be the same with the playoffs. During the Stanley Cup Final there will be a fixed schedule. With this in mind questions will appear randomly during the 24-hour period as a result of my 12-hour shifts at work.

How the regular season will work will be as follows. Questions (games) will arrive in sets of 2 with one for each conference. First person who answers correctly receives the win, which is 2 points. The 3 remaining people in your conference would receive a loss. However I will say this now, you must only answer your designated questions as the opposing conference are competing to. If you answer the other question you will be excluded from the next game. After the season is over the highest point totals will make the playoffs. The number will be determined by how many people sign up. More details will follow when I figure out the logic behind the playoff format.

The new season will not start until we have at least 6-8 people signing up. This will enable a fair and fresh start for everybody.

So anyway who wants to participate and wants a chance to win the Stanley Cup? Anyone is welcome on Simtropolis to play. For those returning you will be staying in your respective conferences from last season.

I'm not so sure I want to come back for another go. I have a busy schedule, and I'm not willing to screw over any other players by asking for questions be delayed. I was on the receiving end of that one a pile of times.

I'm not saying its a definate no, there is a chance. But come on, this is like foot-in-the-crease all over. I know how the Sabres feel, screwed out of a cup and all.

When's the season start? I'm curious to know when I need to make up my mind.

can't forget ya since your team is 10-0-0 and are the fastest team I've ever seen I had the pleasure of watching them practice last year and was amazed at thier team speed compared to other teams(Tor,NJ,Det,Edm,Cal-well those were the practices I got to see last year) and who's the other Leaf fan here I know theres me but who else?

Im somewhat of a Flames fan (sorry beebs) because I always like watching Kipper shine in games. Serves San Jose right for dumping him. But you know with him, Nabakov, and Toskala would pretty much do everything they need for San Jose along with Marleau, Cheechoo and Thorton. Now with always one of them in each game (the goalie) San Jose would be competing for the Stanley Cup much faster than expected. However please keep in mind there is an NHL Talk Forum created (follow the link on my signature) so we can use that for rants and raves. But 10-0-0 is something...time to break that record for good. However 17-0-0 is Pittsburgh's winning streak record and it (hopefully) wont ever be broken.

Heading back to the game if we do manage to have an odd number of players like we do know then what will happen is follows:

Each of you will still remain in your respective conferences with the 2 new people that_address_here and shaggy01ca joining either one. Playoff rankings will be determined by a "Super Conference". Meaning where you finish overall is where you will start in the playoffs. First overall (the team with the best record) would receive a bye into the 2nd round while 2nd place plays 7th 3rd plays 6th and 4th plays 5th. With that in mind the top 2 winners who square off for the Stanley Cup would be awarded the Wildcat and the Exploder. If by any chance both winners are from the same conference then the team with the better record will win the original award for the conference.

Once again good luck as were slowly counting down the days (2 weeks today) until we kick off the season inlcuding the 1st game of the season.

Edit: too bad Edmonton has a Minnesota Mountain to deal with before making ground in the Northwest

Thats the spirit SensMan, glad to have the Wildcat winner back for another shot at glory...unless beebs has something to say about that.

Some obversations from last season...Surprisngly no playoff series were swept by one person...although tchaos713 had a 2-0 lead in the East finals over eventual Stanley Cup winner canuck before dropping the next 4. But hey it's the playoffs anything can happen just like Minnesota magical run in 2003 and by the looks of it they could be the next Northwest team in the SC Finals...

So that brings us up to 8 people which is excellent with 2 weeks left things are looking bright. Now some people may have been confused regarding the deadline. The deadline it self will be 12:00 am EST to sign up on the 11th of November. The first game will be sometime during the 24 hour period on the 11th.. First person who answers correctly at at anytime is credited for the win.

Now I will say this to the 2 rookies now (and remind everyone) that_person_here and shaggy01ca be forewarned you are not allowed to edit your post because it's a form of cheating. The other players can explain to you what happens if you do it. But luckily the 6 are smart enough and obey that rule.
