Well northsider1983- I am absolutely glad that you have asked that question.  As you can see people have already given some places "in the city". Me too.  But I was just thinking about this.  I actually have a hard time trying to find pictures of the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.  Yes the city is picturesque both ways in and out, people just like to see the skyline more times than anything, but I will definetly look for some pictures!

Yes, Goodfelas Pizerria can be found on West 238th street and Waldo Avenue in the Bronx. It's also a common pizza source for Manhattan colege students. the apartment building across the street to the right is Overlook Manor, an upperclassman dorm for Manhattan College since the 60's or so.

Looking the other way, down the stairs, the buiding with the smokestack off to the left is Manhattan College's Leo Engineering Building, which used to be a candy factory. Also visible in the distance is the 238th Street Station on the #1 line (the red structure over the street).

    Great pictures!

But in response to the last pic in manman99's post, I just hate that building theyre putting up to the right of the freedom tower.

It ruins the skyline, and it just feels like it's a constant reminder that there were 2 towers there in the past, but they got knocked down.

Ok, just had to get that off my chest. 3.gif

MuleFisk: thank you for giving us your opinion, Im not making this a Freedtom Tower tthread, but my opinion is that everyone will come to love and understand the buildings in the place they are, just as what happened with thw WTC. Remember its just a drawing, Dont Judge A Book By Its Cover2.gif.

    Keep the pics comin guys!!!!

I like how Manhattan College is in the Bronx - although I'm sure you never hear the end of it. 2.gif

Come to think of it, "Bronx College" might not attract students quite as much.

Well, it originally was in Manhattan when it was founded in 1853. It moved up to its current bronx campus in the 1920's, and they just never changed the name.

And on their official papers, they state their address as being in "Riverdale, New York". The Bronx still has a bad reputation leftover from the 70's and 80's.21.gif

I live about 15 minutes from the Queens border on Long Island. Right down the road from my house is a hill that you can climb, and you can see the whole Manhattan skyline out in the distance. Here are some pictures I took back in September 06.

    Midtown Manhattan

    IMG_0033.jpg?t=1168129997

    Lower Manhattan

    IMG_0034.jpg?t=1168130043

That shot of Lower Manhattan still always gets me. Imagine if the World Trade Center really was still there? Lower Manhattan would look completely different. The towers would be between that really wide building all the way to the left, and that skinny, tall building to the right of the gap.

I'm glad you liked them! 4.gif

I especially like the first picture; in the foreground you have the dense suburbs of New York, and then out in the distance is urban life. 3.gif

All of the in-post pics are under 800x600, so no, they're fine.

The pics I posted as links are 1600x1200, but since they're not embedded in-post, that's fine too.

Well, since you didn't point it out I will. That tall glass building in the first photo is the new 7 World Trade Center, just completed last year. Thing is, that shot there is looking at it across the ground zero site (7 WTC is off the north edge, that shot is from the southeast corner). So, in a few years, that shot will look rather different since the Freedom Tower will be blocking the view of the old art deco building to the left of 7 WTC, and the other towers on the east side of the plaza will likely be going up by then, too.

No word on when the Cortlandt Street station on the 1 train will be rebuilt, though. (that was the station that was actually directly below the old WTC. Subway service throught the site was restored in 2003, but without that station, so you go straight from Chambers Street to Rector Street (southbound)). They did rebuild a temporary PATH station, though. So you can take PATH into and out of the site.

Also, the shot from the highway with the bridge in the background is from the Long Isand Expressway. That bridge is the 59th Street (Queensboro) Bridge.

And the red pier structure with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background is South Street Seaport.

People try to call it a mall, and of sorts it is, but to me it really seems to be more of a tourist trap.

Proof of that: No one from New York ever goes there. Mostly the same deal with the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Empire State Building, too. New Yorkers hate tourists.21.gif

    Great pictures!

(But am I the only one who thinks the Freedom tower and the other new ones look stupid?)

What is this, the Emerald City?

I'd show you guys some pictures, but I don't own a camera.

Beautiful city though. I used to live in Brooklyn, which is great, but nothing compared to where I live now (LES) architecturally.

Lower and midtown Manhattan are nice, but could we see some more of the other 90% of the city?

    Check out this website.

There are pages documenting a lot of things, including many neighborhoods and locales in the outer boroughs.

And not only are there pictures, but if you care, there's plenty of text explaining and describing things, too.
