I'll be designing a new city...Depression Bay. DB is an island struggling for a niche on the coastline. It has little tourist or refinery areas. Erosion is threatening the city's dunes. It is based after Galveston, TX. Not exactly, though. Do we have these items: Moody Gardens (or some sort of beautiful tourist attraction) Elevated roads that can go into the water Really murky looking water, but not polluted Sand dunes Swampy areas Drawbridges: Both R/R and road. A MOD that lets cloudy areas come over my city. It also needs to have obvious Galveston elements and yet be "mine" (as in "original"). Any tips? I'll be mapping it out soon.

Murky water won't blend in with the actual coastline, and it needs a smaller port, and have a few areas with nice-ish beach.

neat, your doing galveston. dont forgot the streetcars.

just, thing is around here you really need to search the STEX first before asking this. you could've gotten your answer yourself easier.

Okay, No moody gardens or any sort of glass pyramid things i can think of.

There are many refineries. search the STEX. Go to the Japanese bat guide thread and follow the link called 'Somy' and navigate his site because he not only has some amazing refineries but offshore oil rigs as well.

For the causeway, the Hump in the middle will not be doable. Use the elevated freeway and the level bridge mod for I-45. make a land bridge and use jeronij's concrete seawall things(not sure what they are called) and the brick ped mall tiles in the NAM. Power lines can be naturally dragged over water so no worries there.

There are numerous seawall type things. You oughta make the beaches barely above sea level, and the rest of the island higher, and have seawalls between the beach and the city like in real life

There are some drawbridges for simcity but they only cross eye candy canals not real game water. Galveston doesnt have any working drawbridges does it? i think there is one on the houston ship channel and on in surfside beach but those are far away from there.

    Bolivar ferry will be easy.

Use PEG's brigantine water mod. The water there isnt THAT bad is it?

As far as the new schlitterbahn, I dont think there is anything

    ...

Just search STEX for some of this stuff and you'lll be set.

HamsterTK, have you ever been to Galveston in say, August or September? It's just down 6 (watch out for the driveways south of Greens Prarie). For one thing, I am not exactly to recreate Galveston bit by bit. That is, it is not going to be exact.

Okay, No moody gardens or any sort of glass pyramid things i can think of. quote>

Ah, it doesn't need to have glass pyramids. I just need something neat and from the STEX, but it should look neat...

    dont forgot the streetcars.quote>

I was kind of thinking of that, but isn't still under development?

There are many refineries. search the STEX. Go to the Japanese bat guide thread and follow the link called 'Somy' and navigate his site because he not only has some amazing refineries but offshore oil rigs as well.quote>

Remember that Depression Bay does not have nice beaches (that is taken by Florida City Beach) or great oil refineries (that's by City of Oil, which the name is temporary)

For the causeway, the Hump in the middle will not be doable. Use the elevated freeway and the level bridge mod for I-45.quote>

What are talking about? Doesn't SimCity have causeways and the Rural Highway MOD?

make a land bridge and use jeronij's concrete seawall things(not sure what they are called) and the brick ped mall tiles in the NAM. OK, Depression Bay will be above sea level. Thankfully, hurricanes won't happen in SimCity. That's why I won't attempt a New Orleansese type city. It would be far to hard to replicate it all under water, not to mention extensive BAT searching...

There are some drawbridges for simcity but they only cross eye candy canals not real game water. Galveston doesnt have any working drawbridges does it? i think there is one on the houston ship channel and on in surfside beach but those are far away from there.quote>

That's too bad. I know there is a massive railroad drawbridge for certain, and I think there is one near Pelican Island, but I'm absolutely sure there are some. It's a good idea for the NAM to do someday.

    Bolivar ferry will be easy.quote>
    Ferry? Hm?

Use PEG's brigantine water mod. The water there isnt THAT bad is it?quote>

Ah, I'll never get to work! It's impossible to for Depression Bay to be all gross water, and Florida City Beach (which is equilivant to real-life Panama City Beach...more on that later)

As far as the new schlitterbahn, I dont think there is anythingquote>

I'll wait for the MAPP. Apparently, an expansion to the MAPP will have water park stuff.

Lastly, I'd like to say I am not exactly trying to recreate Galveston. I am incorporating many bits of Galveston into a new city that just can't seem to get a niche. I'll look in Google Maps. But I'd like to know still about swamps, sand dunes, the seawalls, the granite rocks which once had beach, and elevated roads that can go into water. I'll use the NAM and the RHM, and it's too bad there's no mod for homeless guys to hold signs that say "I'm Traveling. Food and information would be helpful."

It was worth a shot, but thanks anyways. I think I'll play with Google Earth for some ideas! YEAH!
