I have downloaded and bunch of mods and NAMs, but no program on my computer seems to recognize them.  Is there any particular reason they aren't and does that mean I can't use the add-ons on this site?  Thanks

Do you have SimCity4/RushHour/Deluxe installed as that is what the add-ons on here are for?

    Hey DDP,

Welcome to Simtropolis. How did you install these files. They come zipped, if you didnt un-zip them then they will not work. Sometimes like with BSC and NAM, there is an installer inside the zip, these are good for the person who wants to get playing the game as it organizes your plugins folder itself. Some dont come with installers. I would suggest installing everything with a very good filing system.

I unzipped the files into my plugins folder and they appeared with no program icon and I also tried downloading them directly into the plugins folder with the same result.

If all you have installed is MODs... Try putting them into your plugins folder one-by-one and making sure they work with SC4 before installing the next one. This will tell you if you have any conflicts.

What do you mean by any program? Does this mean SC4 only? Or does it mean when browsing you cant see the files?

If you could post a picture using imageshack of your plugins folder after you have things installed.

All the files are in the plugin folder, however next to the name of the file there are icons, and all the icons are the generic icon for when a file is not recognized by any program. Whether or not I am using the files shouldn't they be recognized as SC4 files?

Ahhh.. This is completely normal. These files dont have icons, they have extentions of .dat, .SC4Model, .SC4Lot, .SC4Desc, these extenstions really have no meaning at all. You could call them .whocares and SC4 will still open them as they are inside your plugins folder and read what is inside them. The extentions are only there for user friendlyness. These mods should now be working in SC4 and you should notice the changes. Note: If you have NAM installed there should be new icons in your traffic menus.

Ok, well that seems to be the case and a lot of the files types are CFM. I guess the game isn't reading them and I read on the site that some have to be installed and have read-me's but I am getting nothing except messages saying the files can't be opened.

Files cant be opened in SC4? There are only 2 programs that I know of that can open these files. iLive's Reader and SC4Tool. But for now you shouldnt need to worry about those programs. Just install a couple of buildings to start and then they should be able to be grown in SC4 or plopped from one of your menus if it is a ploppable building. I would try installing a school or police station to start so that you can see it easily in the menu and get the hang of installing plugins. Just going through the NAM installer will install the NAM for you. You must read what it says, and only install the things you want. When NAM is installed there will be new icons in the highways and road menus.

Just plop a mod in your plugins folder and load the game by clicking the shortcut on your desktop. That should work. To verify if the NAM has worked, go to your Misc. Transit Network menu and look for GLR. If it's there, NAM worked for you.
