If it continue this trend Chicago O'hare airport will be the third busiest aiport in the world.

pfft....

Atlanta only gets so much traffic because it's in the middle of the Us... most people are just staying there in between flights...

Anyway, I would pick Paris as the capital of the world.

got history, lots of culture, and one of the most powerful nations...

After reading some of these replies, I'll go with Honolulu, Hawaii. Honolulu is just about in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and within several hours of flying from most of the major Pacific Rim cities. The Pacific Rim is fast becoming the world's economic powerhouse, and it has become important politically. Honolulu's population is a blend of different races and cultures that have managed to live together. I've never heard of any incidents centering on race, religion, culture, etc. in Honolulu except shortly after Pearl Harbor was attacked when people of Japanese descent were herded into internment camps. Honolulu also has an ideal tropical climate, and there is still space on the island of Oahu to build the buildings necessary to house a world government.

A global capital in a city like NYC, London, or Toyko would be, in my thinking, a bad choice. Considering that they already are the top for something, and it would be better to have a important, yet at the same time lesser city be the capital.

-Athens, or Thessaloniki might be good choices. Athens having a strong democratic tradition as well. Thessaloniki is also more connected to the European Network rather

than Athens, so it could also be a nice choice. But really, I find the Greek democratic history the biggest plus of any world democratic order 3.gif

But going down for regions.

North America: Boston, Chicago, Toronto, Halifax

Europe: Amsterdam, Geneva

Asia: Singapore, Hong Kong

South America: Bras

I like that post, IMO; I have a bias, since I live there.  But, I don't think Honolulu as the capital of the world will ever happen.

It would be the ultimate catalyst for tourism, but tourism does have its disadvantages [low-paying service jobs, environmental damage and reinforcing the status quo]

Honolulu really is a world city, but a majority of people here, don't realize or want to believe it.  As one former governor put it, Hawaii suffers from "a subtle inferiority of spirit."  Many locals would jokingly laugh at the prospect of being the capital of the world. Many are quite apathetic about public and world affairs because they value an "ainokea" [i don't care]/laid-back lifestyle.  Not to mention, there are people in the world that still believe Hawaii is just grasshuts, mai tais, surfers and hula dancers.

Environmentalists/preservationists are up in arms that development equals an urbanized Hawaii, aggravates overburdened infrastructure and adds unneeded population pressures. The pro-seccession Native Hawaiians wouldn't like the idea of their ancentral lands being used to house a world government [the complete embodiment of foreign ideas and influence].  And to top it off, there would have to be some incredibly large military and police force, several times over today's levels.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash Hawaii, it is a wonderful place.  It just wouldn't be the best place to physically put the capital of the world.

And yes, compared to many other places, Hawaii seems so stable.  But that's not to say there aren't real social problems and tensions.

Hawaii is one of the best places on earth...great people, culture, and island. Unfortuantly, I just think it would ruin hawaii if the capital of the world were there.

I Think that can't exist an only city to be capital of the entire world, but one for the many regions of the globe:

North America:NYC,LA

Central America:Mexico City(Mexico isn't a central american country, but Mexico City has an important inffluence in these countries.)

South America:S

(Thinking a little) Maybe the only way to make everyone happy was if the Capital of the World was a new city, that wasn't even on Earth. A city on the moon, while maybe not that realistic right now, but not that far in the future, would stop countries from complaining that the capital is too close to another country and too far from their's (ie: China not wanting the capital to be New York). Plus the moon is always moving so it's not always near the same countries. The only problem (besides starting the city) would be with lesser developed countries not being able to build rockets to get there, but other countries could lend them out to each other or something.

(On a side note, does anyone else notice the font is different on this page then any others?)

Yes, this is kitty.

I'd pick Dubai as the capital of the world right now.

This would have to be because of all the new developments which have had the whole world in mind.

For example, the tallest tower in the WORLD is located in Dubai, the WORLD islands are located in Dubai and there are always plenty of tourists that come from all over the WORLD. Just my opinion though.

I would have to say London, partly out of loyalty but also because I think the world capital should be somewhere truly multicultural where you can find people from all over the world, and London must be one of the few places in the world where you can find people from every country in the world!

I'll choose for sure an European city: Paris, London or The Hague. Because Europe has colonized the world and it's political influences are also nearly everywhere. I think a capital is NOT a city with a "downtown" with huge skyscrapers.

BTW i've read that Amsterdam is the most ethnical city in the world.

I think everyone can have their own capitals and still have on country with major countries as part capitals with a main capital.

Some suggestions of Part-capitals:

Beijing(Remember!China is a growing economical superpower)

Tokyo(It almost won WWII)

Washington(The capital of the main superpower)

London(Capital of old British Empire,Present time UK)

Sydney(The cultual capital in Austrlia(From the looks of the Sydney Opera House)

Sao Paulo(Recycling Genius of the world)

Mexico City(Best disaster Prevention Capital in the world)

Main Capitals

Singapore(The 'Capital' of ASEAN)

Geneva(Like they said, the place has to be netual.)

I think, the capital of the world should be established bethween the continents, for example it could be on one island of the Azores or the island Tristan or Bermuda. It should become independant and only have the function to be the capital of the world.
