Survivor Segregated

Outrage is being expressed my many, including politicians in NYC about the new episodes of "Survivor" coming out soon. They have been segregated by race into four groups: African-American, White, Asian and Latin. The arguement is that it will promote racial stereotyping. The studio says it's a new, innovative idea and is no different than segregating by age or sex. I'm not a fan of the show, but personally, I don't really see the hysteria surrounding it. Some groups in NYC are even going as far as trying to get a court order to stop it. Also surprising is that NYC, typically a liberal and ethnically diverse city would be the driving force behind this.

Ugh. Just when I thought I couldn't possibly hate Survivor any more...28.gif

Reality TV in general sucks, but the "popular things like Survivor, American Idol, etc. piss me off not only with their utter stupidity but with the stupidity of their popularity even more.

The crap they put on TV these days and get people to watch...22.gif

At least it's better than having almost ALL whites like they had on all 12 other previous shows! (I'm white.) I don't think this is fair because the winning race will brag about it

As a concept is was interesting for the first one or two series', then it got really tired. Atleast in the Amazing Race, you can enjoy the scenery when the contestants are whinging at each other.

oh well, i dont really care...

what would happen if they made each team balanced(1 white, 1 black, 1 latin, 1 asian)?

you'd still be getting stereotypes because then each would have a percieved role in the group that relates to their ethnicity's percieved role in society...

like i said though, i dont like survivor. i agree about amazing race, its a cool show beyond the stupid people...

The death of this show could not come soon enough for me.

Bah, more wonderful political correctness.

If shows can be allowed to segregrate based on sex or age (as you already pointed out) then race is now different. I heard on the radio one of the opponents to the show and their main point was something along the lines of "the segregration on Survivor sets us back 50 years", well then I guess segregating men and women on other shows is sending us back centuries.

Give me a break. 41.gif

Actually they are being nice calling it crap. Most reality shows are flaky, cheesy, shallow excuses for a television show.

Excellent point, Dark Jedi! It seems kinda odd that they ruckus originated in NYC, which has a pretty liberal climate and is a so ethnically mixed. I'm not a fan of the show (I haven't owned a TV in over 10 years), but I thought, as the producers did, that it was an interesting idea. It's about competition anyway, not political correctness. The big thing everybody seems to be missing is the "players" involved obviously didn't seem to have any problems with it.

Exactly, the reaction to this is like making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Just because we have a little competition between races on a TV show, we're suddenly going to bring back the Jim Crow Laws and allow slavery?
