Regions reappearing after deletion

I am an educator using Sim City 4 as a tool for teaching city planning techniques.  During my time with the program, I've been pleased with it's potential as an educational tool.  However, there have been a few problems that I'm trying to address.

First of all, I would like for there to be only 1 region for my students to work with so that that region will always load up by default.  I try to delete all of the default regions except for Maxisland, but periodically those regions will somehow reappear in the game.  Is there a way to delete these regions and have them stay deleted?

Secondly, one issue I've faced is one student altering another student's city during different class periods.  Is anyone aware of a way to password protect cities?  I know this is probably an unlikely option, but it would help tremendously.

Hi,

The first option is to open the region and load a city, any one of them. Save it and restart.

The second option is to delete the regions folder from the installation path (Normally C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4)

Delete any unwanted regions from the INSTALL DIRECTORY.. ie c:\program files\maxis\simcity4\regions

Also if you re-install for any reason it will have to be deleted again.. And once you delete those, then also delete from the \MyDocs\Simcity4\Regions folder as well.. This should get rid of them.

Protection of cities is best done using "User" logins and passwords. Each student must be seen by XP (You are using Windows XP?) as a user with an account/password set up (using an admin acct) by going to "My Computer"/"Control Panel"/"User Accts"/"Add User". This will make each student his own directory with a "my docs" etc folder, but only one "Install" directory. This can be "overridden" by the persistent student, but without elaborate methods it's probably your best shot.

There is also commands written down in the filelist.txt. The file may tell the game to check if the files are present, or replace them.

Remove anstances of entries '1,1,Regions\RegionName\City.sc4', for example

Thanks for the responses; I'll give them a shot. As for protecting cities, I had thought of having a login for each student, but I don't have administrator privileges in my lab unfortunately. Here's hoping I'll have some virtuous students this year!

As an ex-teacher, I can thell you that it only takes one rotten apple to mess up the whole apple cart.  Have a talk witih your system administrator.  Every student should have his own logon in every computer lab (it should be the same one for each lab per student).

At the college where I worked, we had over 25,000 students, each with his own, private ID.  That ID was only registered on courses the student was in, and he could not access labs that were not in his course, except some of the open labs.

All computers were "re-GHOSTed" every weekend to prevent students from storing stuff on the C drives, etc.  Only hardware labs were exempt from this, but they had their own isolated servers.
