Its a tiny bit more complicated then that, but look around the site and read some threads. You will find all the guides you need to get the stuff running.

Sometimes lol, its even a bit more complicated than that. I've been downloading and installing longer than that, and I've found that just reading doesn't help. Sometimes you need to know exactly which thread to look in for an answer, because its hidden. (Ex. fast speed rail project where you see the download, but aren't sure where to install it to - I of course had to do research and found out where). You sometimes need to re-read... which could take hours.

So for your question:

1. You install BUILDINGS in your My Documents/Sim City 4/ Plug-ins folder. I hope this helps getting you started!

Welcome to Simtropolis. Take a moment to look around the site and stumble upon the Simtroplis Exchange (STEX). It has what is probably the largest collection of user made content for SimCity 4 Rush Hour/Deluxe Edition. Please note that almost all the custom content available on this site is specifically for Deluxe/Rush Hour and won't work with the original SimCity 4. Also, you should have all the patches from the official site, including the BAT Nightlighting Patch. This patch is crucial as without it custom buildings won't light up at night. It can be found in the BAT page of the official site. You should also download the two Buildings as Props files from the Lot Editor page. You have to be product registered and logged in.

Now, in regards to your questions about custom lots: just search the STEX for keywords. The search method on the STEX is a little "special". If you type in Dirt, it will search for all files with the word DIRT in it. If you put in Dirt roads, the STEX will search for files that have both DIRT and ROADS. Just be aware of that when searching.

Now for some tips on some awesome custom content.

The must-have mod for SimCity 4 is the Network Addon Mod (NAM). It adds multiple traffic optimizations to the game engine. It also adds new interchanges, and quite a lot more options. Download it, and READ THE README!

For airports, you can try the SWAP or the RMIP. They're both awesome custom airport packs.

The NAM adds all the overpasses and cloverleafs that you will need. It's the only mod that does this.

For good buildings, I suggest you start with NDEX and BSC. There are tons and tons of others, but NDEX and BSC have produced some of the best creations on the STEX.

Remember to read the description of anything you download and look for any dependencies. Dependencies are often parts of things created by other users that the lot creator used, but didn't have permission to upload his files. They are crucial for the lot you download to show up correctly.

Once you download anything, it goes in your My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins folder. A good idea is to start organizing your plugins into subfolders from the start. Otherwise things can get very crowded, and troubleshooting can be a problem. Some will tell you to put files in the Program Files plugin folder, but I advise against this. Files in the Program Files folder are loaded before anything else, and this can sometimes cause a problem. Not to mention you'll have two folders in which to troubleshoot files if something goes wrong. Just stick to one folder.

Good luck!

     Welcome to Simtropolis.

I have to agree with prince_of_sims, keep the Plugins folder organized.  When I started out donwloading, I just plopped everything into the same file, and hoped for no problem.  But, when I had about 500 megabytes of stuff, the custom trees interfered with something else, but I didn't know what, so I had to start from scratch again.  So make sure:  keep Plugins organized!

Alsoo you need to have a lot of space in your plugins folder, some the buildings requires another prgrams you should install before them , so delete unnnecessary items!

Hi German. Welcome to the ST. Hope you will find it fun.

I had it just like you when I came to ST. As stated ealier you can download stuff from the ST EXchange (STEX), but also from the Modds & Downloads. You will find a link at the top of the pages here at ST.

Here are some good reading. First in the New Members Information forum, here you find the thread: INFO: Getting Up and Running.

When you really gets downloading, you will see a word called Dependencies and you ask yourself: Dependencies? What, How, and Why.

Later on you find a lot of good articles in SimCity 4 Omnibus. One of them I think is a good one to know is the The All in One Guide to Posting on Simtropolis.

Well here you should have some reading for the time being.
