In game University

Well it is time to slab a University into a 37k city. We all know the city college does not unlock the reward. The in-game University imo is too big, and on the ugly side. The Stex has a small handfull of Universities but the details on their in-game affects are sketchy. What I'm looking for is an alternative that is perhaps smaller & has roughly the same affects and unlocks the reward. 

Any recomendations?

Actually, the game's University takes up a very small footprint relative to a real University. I live in Ann Arbor, MI and I'll tell you ... the University of Michigan has buildings all over the city with multiple campuses. Plus dorms, stadiums, etc... etc... etc. I can't imagine how many acres they must own in the "city". I also used to live in a small city on the east coast with a very prestigious small University and their properties occupied fairly large tracks of land too. Even the local community college here in town (Ann Arbor) occupies way more acreage than the in-game University. Keep in mind ... it's a game ... things are scaled sometimes for playability and not realism.

With that all said ... here's my advice. There are several nice "educational" buildings (BATs) on the STEX. Download the one's you like and mod them with ILive Reader to have the stats you like. Then use the reward cheat rodent1989 mentioned and plop them whenever you think it's appropriate. Have fun.

I took a slightly different route and edited the in-game University in the lot-editor to a decent compromise. Still has all the original stats including reward - minus the one smoking boiler. So that way it now requires power. Never cared much for that in the in-game unit either. The University now sits on a 8x10 lot instead of a 12x10.

Yeah totally what JayStimson said. I live in Jackson,MI 30/40 miles west of Ann Arbor and 30/40 miles south of Lansing. So I have "seen" U of M (ann arbor) and MSU (lansing) and compared to how big they are in simcity only a tiny bit bigger than a county club there not scaled right. And not to mention that JCC (jackson community) and WCC in ann arbor are so much bigger than the city colleges in the game. But really why does it matter? If its to big for you, use a city college (aka community college around here) I really don't have a problem with it. Although i would like to see what other ones i could have. The only question i have is, is it possible to have transfer students from other citys come to your university? Can you do this? Or can you only have students from your city going to the university in that city?

The universities only work for the city in which they're located. This is true for all educational facilities. SC4 doesn't seem to believe in out of town scholarships.

The city college works ok but does not unlock the other reward - research building. Hopefully that will unlock other jazz down the road. Right now I'm working on a a few smaller cities that might use the in-game U untill I can upgrade. And crank up a few details, on the current machine SC4 is on cities start to choke at 50k.

Just in case anyone else who reads this thread is interested, I uploaded my Univeristy replacement to the Stex.
