Riots

I was inspired to start this thread after the massive riot i had lasting several sim months. Here's my story.

Pictur rolling hills, green pastures and idyllic countryside of a peacefull farm town of 700 people. The town's name is Barry. The main town is nestled amongst the hills in the corner of the map. It contains the middle wealth homes and three beautiful mansions. In the farms at the crossroads are located a few trailers, some middle class houses and a store at almost every intersection. the point being for the farm workers. I had a mayor rating of 100% and suddenly a riot broke out at one of the crossroads. I decided to watch the group of ten or so sims converge on a busy street. It didn't seem to be much, so I sent one of the town's 2 police cars. It didn't help. The lit the street trees on fire and it spread fast. They looted stores and smashed cars within 1 minute of me dispathing the officer. The fire spread to a nearby house so i dispatched the town fire truck to extinguish it. The mob grew and advanced down the roads destroying everything. i built another small police station and dispatched police. a large fire station to help with fires. A larger police staion afterwards. Police were still outnumbered and farms and fields were burning fast.  They reached a police kiosk on a corner 3 blocks from where they started and burned it. Then they walked three blocks down and torched the Sheriff's office (small station).  It was night with the sim clock nnow and they dark sky was ablaze. They were headed for the main town torching everything. I cheated to get a deluxe police station and dispatched to helicopter. I took control of a firetruck to attempt to put out the fires. After 3 sim months (about 20 minutes) the rioters were arrested. In the end I lost 80 buildings, not to mention the acres of farmland and forests.

Whew! Long post!! Now tell your stories of riots.

Why were your sims so pissed off if your mayor rating is 100? Ea said riots only start if your rating is somewhere in the negatives.

Maybe a simgoober nimby lot or some other custom content pushed it down in a small section of town. I have heard of nimby lots sparking riots in cities with otherwise high mayoral ratings.

That's what did it for me, Spa. I had a decent size city with a good mayor rating. Started a low income area to satisfy demand and decided to make it realistic with strip clubs, etc. by Simgoober. Didn't take long. My first real riot, was fun to break up the monotony for awhile. Reduced the number of NIMBYs and put in a bigger police station and the problem was resolved.

Simgoober does most of them. Do a search for his name. You'll find adult-only lots or x-rated lots, I forget what he calls them. They're really cool and give the city a definite flavor. Can't live without them for a realistic city.

Oh, a riot started in one of my cities, and so just for fun i decided to drive a firetruck down there and try to blast them with the fire hoses like the police sometimes does. It actualy worked, because they just run away from the fire hose, and if you disperse them enough the riot will end, it's pretty cool. I also had another city that basicly provided Dirty Industry jobs to another of my cities. well i haddn't got rid of all of the residential areas, and they where mad. When that riot started i just let it sit to see what happened, and then they started looting, then flipping cars, then blowing stuff up. because every thing was dirty industry, about the entire city burned down!
