Uninstall Backup

Hi

Simcity 4 crashes tooooo much for me and Ive checked all my plugins so Im wondering, if  I uninstall the game, how do I make a backup?  I was going to create a city journal but since its not working, it wont be happening soon.

You only need to back up your regions and your plugins.  The easiest was is to copy them to your desktop.  To be really safe, copy them to a data CD or a CD-RW.

To reinstall, you should be thorough:

1. Do the backup
2. Unistall the game
3. Release any leftovers including the directories
   1. My Documents\Simcity 4 and
   2. Program files\Maxis\Simcity 4
4. Remove any trash and temporary files
5. Defragment your system
6. Boot
7. Install
   1. If you have SC4 and RH
      1. Install SC4 - no patching
      2. Install RH
   2. If you have Deluxe, just install it
   3. Install Update 1 for your region
   4. Iinstall the BAT night light patch (it is multi-region)
8. Boot.
9. Recopy your saved plugins and regions into the My Documents\Simcity 4 location.
10. Try your game.

Be sure your Virtual memory is set to 3 X your RAM size initial and 4096 Maximum.

So, I only need to back up my plugins and region files?  The rest just comes in the setup files?

And where can I get the night light patch...I don't think I had it before becuase none of my bats had lights..

And what did you mean by release leftovers?  (sorry, Im dumb)

In this context release means delete.

In the accesories on the start menu is the system tools, in that list is the "Disk Defragmenter".  But it is slow, so if you have a third party app, like Norton's Speed Disk, it works much faster.  If you use the Windows defrag, start it to run overnight.

When you uninstall SC4, it gives you the option to not uninstall the Simcity documents folder, where all of the game stuff is stored.   That way you don't need to backup the folder, but on the other hand, you should backup that folder occasionally anyway.

Yeah i figured that out just before you replied!  Lol thanks anyway, I've got it done and I am now on step 7 (I'm slow at these things)

BTW, whats 'Update 1 For your regions'?  Is it that "sku 1 update" thingy on simcity.com?

The update 1 stuff is on this page.  SKU 1 only applies to North America.

Unless you have autologon to Simcity.com, log on first then got to help->downloads and follow your nose.
