Size of region

I know there are the default sizes (in the config file it 16 x 16) but can the region be made any bigger.

I've already figured out how to make the config file show different size cities but I want to know if the region sized could possibly be changed

and also what the limit for the size is if it can be changed.

The only size limit I've found is your computer's power.  The config.bmp file's size in pixels defines the width and length of the region.  Each pixel represents one small city tile.  So if you want a region that is 50 x 50 small city tiles, simply make a bmp file that is 50 pixels x 50 pixels, and fill the whole thing in red.

2 pixels x 2 pixels in green makes a medium city tile.*

4 pixels x 4 pixels in blue makes a large city tile.  *

*Edited to correct numbers.  Thanks for catching it N_O_Body.

Hope this helps answer your question.

    Not quite:

    2 x 2 Green = medium

    4 x 4 Blue = large

Do the colors have to be the exact same or can they differ a shade or two?

as long as the respective RGB are set to 255 the rest does not matter, so a color set r=005 g=010 b=255, is still "seen" by the game as blue, regardless of the other 2 numbers

Create the region with the name you want and then exit SC4. Next place (or replace, it's been a while since I've done anything. I remember when Simtropolis had less than 5,000 registered users. 2.gif) the Config.bmp into the region's folder in \MyDocuments\Simcity 4\Regions\ and then restart SC4. If I remember right that should be it.

For a large region of large city tiles first decide how many large city tiles you want per side and then multiply those numbers by 4 to get the proper size in pixels. Then fill the image with Blue 255 and you should be good.

If you just want a region of all large cities proceed as follows:

    1. In windows explorer navigate to My Documents\Simcity 4\Regions
    2. In that folder create a new folder using the name of your new city
    3. Open the new city folder
    4. In MS Paint, create a very small bit map with each square of 16 pixels (4 x 4) set to blue (RGB(x,y,255)) where x and y are small numbers so each square will be distinct (e.g. RGB(192,192,255) should give a lighter color than RGB(0,0,255)).  The squares should be adjacent to each other.
    5. Save the bitmap as Config.BMP in your new city folder.
    6. Close paint and explorer
    7. Start the game and select your new region.
There you are, you may now terraform to your heart's content.

You should look at alternate methods if you want a random region use the Landscape Designer.
