SOME SUGGESTIONS TO THE SITE OWNERS

As a relative newbee on SC, I'd like to hand the web owners some suggestions.  This will make things a lot easier, especially for newbees and will prevent recurring (basic) questions.  These are my suggestions:

1.  Make a list with explanations about such often used terms as modds, ploppables, BSC, StEx etc.  I found it very hard to find out what they meant and some I still don't understand.

2.  In the StEx I notice that contributors sometimes put individual contributions in packs (and then ask people to delete the individual ones); why not you delete obsolete contributions so that people download them, then have to remove them again?

3.  Make a list with FAQ's as part of the forum.  The forum should actually start with this.  This will give beginners a good idea what to do when they run into problems.

4.  My game has been severely slowed down and often crashes.  According to Vlakhaas this might be because I've downloaded too many lots and/or because I've downloaded lots from contributors that are not reliable.  You might consider dealing with these questions in the FAQ (as proposed above), but you might also consider making a list with reliable, questionnable and unknown contributors, so that problems like these can be prevented.

5.  You might consider making a list with highly recommended downloads and plugins, and explain to everyone why they are recommended.  This would help a lot.  As for myself, for example, I don't know which plugins and lots are essentials; the result is that I've (probably) downloaded too many of them with all kinds of negative consequences.

6.  Make a separate list with (recurring) problems (and let people contribute to the answers); this would help prevent many of those.

Hope you are willing to consider these suggestions.  I'd like to ask others to come up with additional suggestions that would benefit us all.

You guys at ST are doing a great job, but improvements can always be made...

I should say that the STEX CD is a *Way good idea*. I have mine since last year? I'm not sure, but the only thing I'm sure is that I'm waiting for the second part.

I think I waited about a week for the CD. And I live in the Netherlands.

    2) They put them in packs to make things easier... just don't download the old ones. The reason the messages are there are for people who downloaded the old ones BEFORE the new mega pack was put up for download.

    4) Keep in mind that nothing you download here is 100% sure to work with your game as it is all fan made content. Thus, it is not official Maxis/EA stuff and is not guaranteed by them. If you want to avoid the buggy downloads, read the comments before you download it or look at the rating of the download or the rating of the creator. Both are good indicators of the reliability of the download.

I got my STEX CD the day after it was post-dated, but I don't live that far away! 4.gif
