I think we've got enough "teams" as it is. They generally disappear into inactivity after a while anyways. But feel free to do as you please.

Heh heh.....

BAT teams are only good with good BATters, sorry to say. Even NDEX woul not have existed without the incredible volume of BATs that DuskTrooper has put out.

If you can't BAT, then you don't need to start a new team. If you still want to be helpful, join an existing BAT team. There are quite a few who would accept you, just look around.  Look at T Wrecks; he's up to his neck in stuff to do, even though he doesn't BAT, because he knows how to make quality lots and he knows simple modding.  The modding is the easiest part - it's straightforward and it's the same for most lots you'll encounter.

I think Ardecila is right. We have plenty of teams as it is! The two teams of SYM Productions and RN productions seem to have disapeared as quickly as they appeared, and they both had really talented BATters in them. If you're going to start a team then you at least need to be a Batter, otherwise there is no real reason to start one.

Choco.

I agree we have enough teams already. It's a good idea though.

If you still want to go for it think about the positives and negatives of creating a team. You may even want to come out with a plan or roadmap to keep your future thread readers happy. Go around to the other BAT teams and study them. why are some successful while others aren't?

Just a word of caution though, looking back at the history of Simtropolis teams you'll see most have dissapeared due to inactivity and poor managment. Because of that, it's disappointing for people to get their hopes up about a team and then loose faith because members dissapear only a short while afterwards. It's one thing to silently work on a project for yourself, but once you go public it's a different story.

People will be waiting for you to get done, sometimes even bugging you about your progress via PM. Suddenly your in the spotlight and the pressure is on. People will also rely on you for BAT's. I've seen people treat talented BAtter's like some sort of BAT factory robot. I've also seen people treat the respected members of NDEX and the BSC as if they were personal BAT slaves. Very rude to say the least

As a sidenote, this is why I'm hesitant to create a BAT team for my upcoming New York CJ. I'm thinking of asking BATer's to help me by contributing a BAT. I've created most of the buildings myself already so I could probably continue alone. We'll see.

Anyway, do what you feel comfortable doing. Just don't do it because everyone else does it.2.gif

I think the idea is to not mention when the deadline for a project is, so you and forced to do it to the deadline, and there is no pressure, and is finishable at your pace.

Sorry to say I have to second Ardecila and Chocolatemax. Unless you're spear heading the effort with BAT creations of your own, you're unlikely to get anywhere. Take the newest arrival to Simtropolis, BLAM. Onlyplace brought it about successfully because he has been a high quality prolific batter over the last couple of months. His skill, productivity and reputation brought about a large response. Starting a thread with two sentences about how a new team is needed without offering up any custom creations of your own, be they lots or BATs, isn't going to cut it. I suggest that if you really want to do this, spend some time with the BAT or the Lot editor so that you can offer up a team that actually has a chance of releasing some work. Also, try and think about niches that haven't been filled. For example, industrial BATs have been fairly ignored. Anyway, good luck with this.

Actually, BAT teams not only need good BATters, but also good lot makers and modders, testers and scrutineers - and finally someone who does the packaging (writing readme files, creating ZIPs or installers). It's the team effort that counts; some people are good at BATs, others at lot making and modding. So a good team can be only productive if there's a good balance between the skills, and of course a good communication between the members. This will also prevent that some members are merely treated as "BATting machines" or "modding robots". Founding a BAT team doesn't raise the output, nor can anyone expect to gain more reputation (i. e. with a flashy logo). SimCity is a game, and creating custom stuff is all about fun (some folks tend to forget that). A BAT team is there to help each other, and to receive quality criticism, which means constructive criticism rather than praise.

Looking at my personal experience with the SFBT, it doesn't work to sit there and offer the creation of a team. It only works if you're willing to do some work (or better lots of work, to keep the ball rolling), and when you come to a point where you realize that you can't handle certain things on your own anymore. "Helping hands" are the magic words, not the pure fact that there is a team (with cool logo, cool member labels and such things). The latter is merely a sign for other people that the output is based on a joined effort, to make sure it meets a certain quality standard. Thus, the SFBT logo is rather a sign of quality that is recognizable for end users (the same counts for the BSC, BTW).

I think the newest team is the SCS by neongamer. Anyways To start a team you need to show up your skills to the poeple like Onlyplace4. If you want to start BATting why don't you read some tutorials at the Omnibus, they are very good.

Hehe...don't forget RJM Designs...we haven't posted anything in a while to the STEX because the entire team is dug in deep in the MAPP (see my signature)...we have a few prop packs and a BAT or two that will be released after we have time to concentrate on something other than the MAPP...  9.gif

Well, the first couple posts in this thread are people who say that they would not BAT well.  Therefore, in order to be part of a team, they would have to do one of the other jobs (modding/lotting/release).  What they are missing is a BATter.

But yes, scrutineers are essential.  They are often overlooked, too, because people want to contribute to the released product.  It takes up valuable time, too, if you have to do it yourself.  It's much more efficient if someone can test it for you.
