Hello, I am new to Simcity 4 and Simtropolis. Im looking for simple tips for me (and other Newbies) to help kick start my first major city. Anything and everything is welcome here but I am mainly asking for help with transportation within regions and downtown areas.

P.S. If I have an industrial region adjacent to a residential region, will Sims commute to the other region? If so what is the best mode of transportation?

Welcome to the site!

I would first check out some articles in the Simtropolis Omnibus.

There are many articles in the Omnibus that could help you about building major cities. Also, you should check out the City Journals section and see what other members have created, and hopefully gain some inspiration from them all! The STEX (Simtropolis Exchange) is a great place to download some awesome buildings for your cities. Search "NDEX". It will show you some awesome awesome skyscrapers for your major city.

So, that's basically it. PM me with any more help that you need! 4.gif

Hi LowRider0123. Welcome to Simtropolis.com.1.gif

I would suggest that you download and install the NAM. You will find it in the Modds & Downloads section. Start small and gradually expand. Don't provide civic services immediately. As and when your budget can afford, thats when you slowly start giving your citizens basic services like Fire Stations, Elementary School, etc.

Keep providing good transport routes from your residential areas to your commercial and industrial areas. In the beginning, have a lot of roads complemented with bus-stops on important highly-travelled roads. Later on upgrade these roads to avenues or provide alternate one-way roads. When your road network gets too stretched, then bring in Elevated Rail and Heavy Rail in your city. When you start placing EL-Rail and Normal Railway stations,  place bus stations near them too. Also there must be a lot of bus-stops in your work areas.

Have Fun!! 4.gif

Just cross two high-ways over each other. If there is plenty of space around, you will get a cloverleaf option.

Hey LowRider, welcome to simtropolis! I hope you enjoy it here.

To create a cloverleaf, lay a long section of highway, than drag another one across it and it should turn blue and ask you if you want to place a cloverleaf. They are really huge, so you need plenty of space to build them, to start off with while you're still getting the hang try to make them in areas that there are no buildings anywhere near by. Keep playing around with them, and remember, you need lots of space and flat land. And you can also manually place them from the highway menu.

Good luck, I hope that helped, and if you still don't get it I will make a little picture tutorial for you.

    Cheers, choco.

Thanks for all your help guys! BTW. I did figure out how to make the clover. It seems I didn't drag the connector highway far enough. Oops!
